@ben1ben2ben1 Not sure why.... I taped the long (tapered) edges first. Then went back for the but joints. No cracks yet, it's over 2 years now. It's never been below 40 degrees in the garage, even before I got the heat hooked up last winter.
@ben1ben2ben1 no, just 1 layer of 1/2" rock on the ceiling. I put 5/8" for fire code all the way up to the rafters [cathedral ceiling inside] on the wall between the house & garage.
The joint compound applied after taping is probably close to 1/16" thick over the butt joints. Then feathered with a 12" wide joint knife. Doesn't have to be 100% pretty.... Inside I staggered the joints to make no X 's in the taping.
No, it was bolted together with things that were around, including the winch. I didn't have a lot of reduction ratio options. A 1000RPM 3/8" drill turns the winch. I only need to sheetrock the garage, so high speed isn't important.

@marzarza: Exactly! That is one of the major reasons.
¡Exactamente! Ése es una de las razones principales.

I'd never rent a lift. Buying 14'+ extensions are less than $200 on E-Bay. Much easier to move, load, and lift as well.

Looked pretty fast to me... coordinating several ppl on ladders trying to hold it up would take much longer... and thats IF you have help.
