It will help mend the wounds. You need to be strong for others around your community that are also dealing with all of these deaths. About being rejected for an application, I personally applied for the best two high schools in my city and was quite confident in my abilities to get in. I was rejected, even though some friends of mine who had always achieved pretty much as well as I had academically got in. I was very disappointed, but now I've found that I can connect incredibly well and have developed amazing friendships with some of my classmates. I would probably have been much less happy in one of the other two schools.
I like the part about rejection. The way I see it is you didn't go to that school before the rejection and your not going after if you think about it the situation didn't get worst it stayed the same. Its all about how you see it. Ashley: Don't sweat what highschool boys think/thought of you. College will most likely introduce you to people mostly men who share the same interests. Believe it or not lots of guys find shy/secretly "tomboy" girls cute. Keep your head up, and don't think you need to change yourself to get a guy. The person who likes you for you is the person you want.
@Fuckmylifexx As a guy, I've got to agree. Tomboyish, nerdy, shy girls ARE cute. A lot of guys won't admit or acknowledge it because they've been conditioned to think and say otherwise. But, you will find the guys that do not give a damn about what people say they're told to think, and thats the kind of guy that will go for you. Give it time, don't change who you are (though, as Buck said, an attitude change can be a good thing).
You're 14. I was overweight and self conscious at 14 too. I'm now 17 and the weight has shifted, and I have a much better self image.
My advice to you is to join a gym, and work out at least once a week. It makes you feel much more confident about yourself. Also, you have to learn to love yourself and be confident before you start dating guys. Once you're confident, the boys won't care about how heavy you are. Boys really do care more about personality than about weight.

I don't like her cuz she broke up their marriage and at the start she tried to be my friend and then 2 days after the wedding she was a total meanie. Dear Buck/Anyone, I have really low self esteem. I think I'm hideous, disgusting and fat and totally useless. All my friends and family assure me I'm pretty, thin etc. but no matter what they say it doesn't make me feel any better. SAMMY! i was exactly like you at your age and the saddest part is its only been two years since i was 14 :/ but i am PROOF that you can change and fast. my metabolism is just as horrible and i used to eat healthy but when i started working out at eating even less i did lose weight. only being thin is not all its made out to be. you have friends and people who care about you. but i agree with kittycatfreakswillru signs of thyroid are irregular period and weight gain at the waist maybe get checked

I have that and I've started taking pills, they are actually working and I've been losing weight,and because your 14 (I'm 13!) the strentch marks go away because your skin is heals faster...I used to have stretch marks on my inner thighs and now they are gone :)
So try talking to your doctor and maybe going to a gym? Then WHEN (not if!) you lose the weight you will feel beautiful on the outside,like you are on the inside :)

About being rejected for an application, I personally applied for the best two high schools in my city and was quite confident in my abilities to get in. I was rejected, even though some friends of mine who had always achieved pretty much as well as I had academically got in. I was very disappointed, but now I've found that I can connect incredibly well and have developed amazing friendships with some of my classmates. I would probably have been much less happy in one of the other two schools.

I tend to be very anti-social but it's not that great, maybe sometimes you could try and go out to a movie, you could be with friends, but at the same time not really need to be social or talk to anyone. @Kabutopuppy cept i have a boyfriend and don't actively pursue gay men. they just seem to like me for some reason...it's caused my boyfriends to be jealous in the past. i just respect gay men and believe they have some brave qualities that aren't common in straight men :)

Ashley: Don't sweat what highschool boys think/thought of you. College will most likely introduce you to people mostly men who share the same interests. Believe it or not lots of guys find shy/secretly "tomboy" girls cute. Keep your head up, and don't think you need to change yourself to get a guy. The person who likes you for you is the person you want.

@Fuckmylifexx As a guy, I've got to agree. Tomboyish, nerdy, shy girls ARE cute. A lot of guys won't admit or acknowledge it because they've been conditioned to think and say otherwise. But, you will find the guys that do not give a damn about what people say they're told to think, and thats the kind of guy that will go for you. Give it time, don't change who you are (though, as Buck said, an attitude change can be a good thing).

You're 14. I was overweight and self conscious at 14 too. I'm now 17 and the weight has shifted, and I have a much better self image.
My advice to you is to join a gym, and work out at least once a week. It makes you feel much more confident about yourself. Also, you have to learn to love yourself and be confident before you start dating guys. Once you're confident, the boys won't care about how heavy you are. Boys really do care more about personality than about weight.

@maaanda Male here, gonna weigh in. I was incredibly overweight at 14 (235lbs at 5'6), and training, my sport, etc has totally turned my life around. But thats not the point. Going to a gym, training, getting involved in a sport like weightlifting/powerlifting (look it up, it won't turn you into a man, I promise). The truth is, some guys will care about weight, but they're not the kind of guys you generally want. As long as you're not morbidly obese, the guys worth dating won't care if you have

@Cassidy, It's not a problem to crush on a gay guy, as long as you know that you can never actually have a relationship with him. If it's just a harmless crush, it's not that big a deal. But you have to live with the reality that will never be with him in that way.

Buck covered a lot of your letter, so I just want to mention one thing. When you said, why would he like me let alone kiss me, you have to consider something? Have you ever heard someone making fun of a skinny person? Calling them anorexic, saying they have no boobs, no ass, etc. Believe it or not, a LOT of guys like bigger women.

@gfatreak2 I'm not sure that would help you but it would be a nice gesture for him to get a note saying someone likes him. I don't know how big your class is though or what kind of drama that will cause? I'm sure he'd show people and they would begin the quest to find out who sent it.
