Nice. I've put a 2.8 Toyota diesel and auto in my '78 LT 28 camper. Tight fit, using the original engine cover. Wish I coulda got one of these for it. What gearbox are you running? Hopefully something with an overdrive!
@geizzie.. I got given the engine coz it had a death rattle which turned out to be small washer on top of piston! It had a 4 spd o/d auto behind it. My LT28 had a gutless 2 litre petrol Audi/VW engine in, with a 5.2 diff. 80kph screaming. Now down to approx 4.1. There are no parts available in New Zealand for the LT28, so a higher diff was not an option. Not driving yet, as interior not finished. In the middle of a lousy winter. Only photos. Too dumb to know how to do youtube...yet.. Paul.
@geizzie Hey Geizzie, could you please tell me what rear axle you used? I have the same problem with my 1981 6cyl. diesel, I am convinced it could be faster and less noisy with a more efficient ratio. I do not have more than 800Kg of load (it's the Westfalia version). Toyota diesel? The first time I've heard that combination! What are you're experiences with it? Do you have a movie made of the rebuild?
And no, up to now not an overdrive is used, but another rear axle with a higher ratio.

the engine is made by volkswagen. it was also used in volvo 740/940 td,
also available in 122 bhp td intercooler form
