Robert Duvall es muy buen actor, pero es de los peores escritores/directores que he visto en mi vida, no tanto como uwe boll pero casi jaja, es patetico como proyecta la infidelidad en la pelicula como algo "comico" o normal, y ni hablar de como le dice "zorras" a las mujeres argentinas de una manera indirecta. Robert Duvall muy buen actor pero como persona un verdadero pendejo.

I was told tango is machismo. This is not machismo, nor is true tango. It's just those idiots on TV that try to interpret tango as a sort of bullfight! This tango with Duval is a poem of love that I never experienced in my own long life. Nor have I found, as is stated in the movie, loosely quoted, "What makes life worth living is cigarettes, whisky and the tango." Country folks here in US South say, life is made worth living by "old dogs, young children and watermelon wine." All true.
I loved this movie the first time I saw it on Showtime. The dancing is so fluid and allows your mind and heart to escape the daily drudgery. Ms. Predazza is Duvall's companion in real life. They share his large estate in Virginia.
But unfortunately, most of the dance scene are disapointing. Especially, I have always wondered why he had Geraldine dancing with Pablo at the end... She appears with Javier during one scene but there isn't even a dance with the 2 of them. That would have been history!
I love tango. I have a great respect for Robert Duvall, he is a great actor. But calling his movie, Assassination tango, a masterpiece... no... far from that... It is interesting for the "documentary like" part (totally disconnected from the plot by the way) when Tango figures talk about tango.

A little confusing, this.
It's excellent . . . but not characteristic of Tango.
The excellence of the video . . . is its evocation of Contemplation.
But Tango . .. is more characteristically about Power.
