  • I still listen to the vinyl, love it, no better sound.

  • Thank you..."smile that tells the story...

  • The piano shines in this song.

  • it's a shame we can't find music on the top 40 like this anymore.

  • Please share your link!

  • beautifully brilliant music from a very missed era when music was created for the sake of the music.

  • one of my FAVE albums of the 70's!!

  • Have the first John Simon album on reel to reel .... Sounds good ... Thanks .....

  • great album and really welcome at the time.. seem to remember that the album cover was a bit different. some kinda pop out or pop up art stuff. at that time, could've easily been hallucinating..

  • @animascat You may have been hallucinating, but you are correct about the album. It was well known for its marble color and pop-up cover when you opened it.

  • back when there was really music. what the hell happened?

  • had it ... years ago .. wore it out ....

  • I still have this LP...the first batch was a "swirly" mix of various colors in making the acetate material...after that you could only get the LP in regular black...anybody know what I'm talking about? If you do, you have a collectible Dave Mason LP! woo hoo ^/^

  • @1Phoebus Trivia quiz: If you know why Dave made the original album in the marbled colors, I will give you a thumbs up. I finally found out when I met him backstage at a gig and asked him.

  • @PornStarfishScooter .....I understand it to represent a Sunset!- right....^/^

  • LOVED THIS ALBUM SINCE THE EARLY 1970'S. JUST LOOKED UP THE KEYBOARDIST ANS AM BLOWN AWAY BY LEON RUSSELL. CHECK HIM OUT TOO.

VERY BEAUTIFUL MUSIC. WEE NEED MORE LIKE THIS.

    GOD SENT.

  • little known but one of my favorites back in the day... Thanks, Steve.

  • This record was one of 1970's Top Albums...Great songwriting, excellent vocals, & great musicians...Every track was excellent, a Masterpiece...but was largely overshadowed by the Beatles, & their break-up...The beginnings of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, & other heavy rock acts...

  • A masterpiece "no doubt about it" :

    g : )

  • just bought Dave Mason "Certified Live" from ITUNES....the best....usually don't like live version but with this one....

  • @pedicord89

I was at that concert at the Universal Ampitheater in 1976. That was a very special night, Dave and team we at the top of their game. We purchased the album shortly thereafter and have been enjoying it ever since. It's a hidden treasure.

  • just bought Dave Mason "Certified Live" from ITUNES....best....

  • WOW - WHAT A GREAT LINE-UP

  • will always love this song.........

  • 28 notes

  • I don't know why some cd's/cassettes play louder than others but the cassette of this album nearly breaks my windows in my Avalon when turned up to 10, which isn't really a problem, so far no breaks....this is the only "album" I have of Dave, is all Dave's releases the same?

  • Does Dave have another CD like this? or even more acoustic?

  • @hemet92544

Tons of it, recommended "it's Like you Never left", "Dave Mason" (yes like that) "Split Coconut" "Mariposa de Oro" and many others

    g : )

  • I remember when my sister gave me her 8 track. All the great music that came out for it. Ah memories....

  • YES, WE SHOULD SEND THEM ALL TO THE MOON !!!!!

  • still have the vinyl

  • your art is magnificent

  • I grew up with this shit. Classic vinyl that still stands . Best album Dave Mason ever made.

  • This song was original on the live Traffic album "Welcome to the Canteen" Great live album...

  • memories-good ones. The youngest generation missed so much.

  • the Gov't Mule 12 min blues rock version is also great, very different but even more grievous

  • this song always brings back memories of lost loves when i was in my teens

  • @belindesq, Everybody smoke dope. That will fix the problems of the world... NOT!

Dave Mason's music is timeless. My parents liked him.

  • @Stumbler1able Sounds like you need to take a few hits of some good smoke and relax, dude. As Freewheelin' Franklin sez: "Dope'll get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no dope." To which I would add: But if you abuse it then you've only yourself to blame.

  • One of the best albums ever recorded!!! What happened to our generation? We should have done so much more by now. This whole gulf oil spill never would have happened if we would have gone green. We knew better and we let the military industrial complex keep their power. Shame on us. At least CA is about to legalize pot. That should have happened ages ago.

  • @belindaesq

Right you are! But too many folks gave in to the Establishment and material crap. Others went off to live in isolated places far from the bullcaca. Others ohdeed. And a lot never really were in control of their lives to begin with. With the rise of the neocons and resurgence of racism I eventually felt like such an outsider in my own country that I left, too. Never looked back. No regrets.

  • m-e-r-a-v-i-g-l-i-o-s-a canzone.Grazie.

  • Love Dave Mason. So underrated. If anyone has "Relationships" to upload that would be great. Lost my album AND CD in the recent New England flood. March 2010.

  • This song is Forever !

  • A Tear Jerker, A truly grate Love Song

  • a real classic

  • Dave Mason was one of those artists who never got the recognition the quality of his music deserved. Alone Together and the self titled Dave Mason album were two of my favorite albums from the early 70s. Great music. I think his version of All Along the Watchtower is the greatest version of the song ever recorded, and I'm including Dylan and Hendrix.

  • For all of you wondering about the musicians on this incredible album: Leon Russell, Jim "Gentle Heart" Capaldi, John Simon, Jim Keltner, Jim Gordon, Chris Ethridge, Carl Radle, Larry Knectel, Mike De Temple, John Barbata, Delaney & Bonnie Bramlett, Rita Coolidge, Claudia Lennear, Don Preston, Jack Storti, Lou Cooper, Mike Coolidge, Bob Norwood, and of course the genius that is Dave Mason. dh.

  • @77syzygy

There was a whole clic of talent.

Check Delany and Bonnie's live album "Going Home" I think it was and Joe Cocker "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" at the Filmore

  • @RadioReporter01 Right on, Radio bro! I met Dave M. & Jim C. backstage @ a bay area concert many moons ago. They were extremely friendly, signed my "Alone Together" album, while @ the same time Dave answered the burning question I had since 1970. He explained the reason for the multi-colored vinyl was to represent a sunset. Makes sense when you look at the fold out photo. Btw, did you catch Joe Cocker onI the other night, he's still got it! Haven't heard D & B's "GoingHome" yet. I will check out

  • @77syzygy

Always wanted one of those albums. D&B's live album at some concert hall in the UK. Cover has D&B in B&W. If you're going to try to catch my world record of playing the last song where the big cheers are for Clapton, you'd better get started

  • Saw him play this at Shady Grove Music Fair Gaithersburg Md in 75 or 76 awesome show

  • man,this was a masterpiece record,i like it!

  • Only reason I have heard this song is I know Gov't Mule on occasion plays this song. Great song. Good to know finally where it comes from.

  • can someone please post this ENTIRE album out here

  • this is some really sad stuff....

  • Dave Mason. perfection..oh, this album, helped me grow up. Returned to it time and time again to sort things out..never said thanks, Dave. You got me thru some tought times. that haunting voice of yours still something, after all these years..you know, older is better.

  • Man hearing this one again for a long time it brings just chills up my spine, so damn beautiful.

    Thanks for uploading

  • Thanks,very beautifull song

  • who has it Live ?!!

  • One of the deepest, saddest songs in the world. Thank you...

  • and sadly beautiful...song for Megumi

  • This song is the story of my love, dear Miss M......the 'smile' is yours, the 'eyes' with which you see so much, the calmness I love.."I love you"!

  • It's a shame there isn't a video for this song - one of his best. Thanks for posting it. Many memories...

  • Ah yes...the early 70's....If only I could remember what happened ;)

  • Check out the band he had with him on this album.

Plus he still tours alot, and sounds better than ever...Check them out.

  • For Miss M

  • So beautiful. great album.

  • What a great album! What wouldn't I give to get this on CD! So many memories of such a long time ago. It would be easier to write this if I could stop crying. Dave, your music is timeless. Unfortunately, you and I are not.

  • So many memories ... sad and deep as you

  • could you possibly post "just a song," as well? have always loved this album---thnks

  • DEEP

  • have this lp

  • I still have the 8 track

  • old ass mofo :-). cool.

  • @RadioReporter01 But do you still have the 8-track player? ;~)

  • @azuetense

    Several including one that records.

Neighbors are from the crackberry gen so I found it funny when one asked where the music was on a record. "The smooth or the grooves?"

Then I had to show him how to put the needle to the vinyl. Had to think about that...

  • @RadioReporter01 Too funny! Lost most of my 8-track collection and first player to the depths of the Caribbean off St. Croix in '72. Then lost the rest of my 8-tracks and new player in the Acapulco airport in '74. I used to love listening to Hair over and over the year it came out. 'Bout drove my mother crazy. Good morning starshine! But we're not old, just better! =)

  • @azuetense I actually saw the Broadway production when it came out, Hair.

  • @RadioReporter01 That was the coolest Broadway musical of the Sixties by far. You were a witness to history. What the heck has happened to our US culture since then?

  • @azuetense

All downhill since then. I also snuck into the last show at the Filmore when the Allmans made the double album. And I was there for Mad Dogs and Englishmen too

  • @RadioReporter01 I'm impressed with your snuckery!

  • @RadioReporter01

    8 tracks will rise again!

  • @lizajane54 Not to mention reel to reel & L-cassette.

  • i have yhe one on marbled vinyl

  • To my Buddies from Kanot!!

Remembering Another master piece by Dave Mason.

This was always on my mind while I was thinking of our great times in Gederah!

    Regards from Avner!

  • 5 Stars. Thanks for uploading!!

  • Is your vinyl album the weird colored swirly one like mine, or is it regular black?

  • lol.

    no...its the hot pink one.

  • It's funny that I really don't feel the sadness to this song; but I do fell the depth that Mason so beautifully demonstrates with his haunting lyrics.

  • Fond memories of Dave performing this one in concert at Bowling Green University in '76, with the immensely talented Mike Finnigan on keyboards.

  • beautiful song. He's still great in concert.

  • 1 of Davey babies gentler, nothing beats every women. But only if your a women.

  • dave's most consistent quality songs; wonder if he had some of these while in Traffic and wouldn't give them up...

  • DM does a great version of this on the Traffic album "Welcome to the canteen".

  • an amazing version!!!!!I love it.

  • i heard this when warren haynes and gov't mule covered it a little help from our friends album the best i thought, better than this but this is very good also

  • That's my friend, John Simon (producer extrordinaire) on the haunting piano. This song has lifted me through many a trial in life. "A smile to get ya through." Its a healing soundtrack for a melancholic heart. Many thanks!

  • I think you're mistaken; that's Leon Russell on piano.

  • Leon plays on a couple of the songs on this album, "Alone Together". Leon is great! I grew up in Tulsa and used to see him sometimes at local clubs, was also invited to his home studio and got to play on his big black grand piano once.

But this track is unmistakably John Simon's brilliant, plaintive piano embellishment.

  • Think we should check the liner credits , I dont' recall J.Simon on this record and have two copies [could be wrong]By the way JIM CAPALDI co-wrote and wrote some tunes ,on this AS SANG AND PLAYED ,ALONG WITH A HOST OF GREAT OTHERS,too many to mention ....

  • just a song...!

  • someone please put this whole album out here!

  • i sing this song from that time i heared and i make people quite when i do.....

  • HAUNTINGLY HEAVENLY!

  • Lilting piano keeps the song positive, while all the time being heavy beautiful.

  • brings me back to my freshmen year of college. love hearing it again after all these years

  • me too.

I haven't thought of him in many years

  • The original LP had marbelized printing, truly unique-- just like the music.

  • yeah, I had that marbleized version. It also came with an album cover that unfolded into a wall hanging.

So many of the r&r legends had major solo offerings around this time. (Leon, Eric, Todd, Edgar, Johnny, Rod, etc.) Dave Mason's "Alone Together" is a classic!!!

  • geez thanx for posting this audio, It certainly brings back memories *-)

  • Dave Mason created all of this in the late 60's and early 70's. It is what it is.

  • this song i know this tyle

    and this song,

    matthews southern comfort...road to ronderlin

  • great tune but no vid??
