Lmfao, did they shoot the matrix scene there????!!!! Hallway full of doors. Wow, screams personality, I gotta say, no sheeple crammed into cans here, look away!
I often think about how good it would be to convert an old cargo ship or oil tanker into a house/s, u could use the cargo area for greenhouses with glass hatches and live in the rear, u could grow your own bio diesel even!
People who have been living on the street feel more comfortable in a small space like this. Not everyone wants to "live large". Shipping containers could be a solution to the problems of homelessness and high living costs for many people. Thanks for sharing views of your living space with us all.
Like a forumla 1 room. Be great for students or temporary living, just would want to live in one my whole life. I think your video style was effective ;)
@Janitor989 If somebody would rather watch a huge TV than save the money for a nicer house that won't blow away in a windstorm it's their own business. I just find it poor judgement. Everybody has their priorities.
I am moving into one of these at the end of the month, glad I found this vid because it is the ONLY media on the internet that actually shows the inside of one, I found it suspicious that the housing agency only provided outdoor pictures. Plus it's like 45+ minutes away from the hva campus so I kinda got screwed but oh well
It student halls in Holland in Netherlands. Shipping containers are both good and bad. They make the place structurally built like a tank. If there is a fire it wont collapse or burn so easy but there will be a problem with heat and flash burn unless designed/ventilated correctly. The windowed wall at the end can easily be popped out from its frame from the inside with a few screwdrivers. If you run at it hard enough you might be able to break it down. the doors of the cont. have been taken off.
The problem is this.If we downsize our living spaces to dwell in a box it will cause more of the same dwellings to be built right up next to you.Soon no yards trees parks and any place of nature.I get the whole recycle and reuse thing I believe in it but in response to Michael 7477 + anyone else who got the 5th element referance. That was a play on the overpopulation of the future that is why Corban Dallas had to live in a shipping container sized apartment.Actually wasnt as big as container
For all you idiots that ask where is this, it's Holland; The Netherlands, retards, just check the guy's channel. I knew it was before checking it, saw some pictures elsewhere. Btw, Containers come in 20 and 40 feet long only. I've seen these being used near beaches as police quarters. And in construction sites as offices. But clearly as it's shown here, as homes. Might be tiny, but those people don't give a damm, they spent half a day baked by weed anyway so they don't think much about that.
A point well made, all permanent structures in Europe have to be built to Eurocodes7, which takes into account fire access etc, which the appears to be a lack of here - but are the permanent? To me the fire risk of these structures cannot be ignored, when an enviable fire breaks out the place will act as one big oven - not for me.
@TheDietwawa If a fire starts in one "apartment", it can't spread to the others because of the metal walls between them (probably insulation/soundproofing between the metal walls) and he can exit either through the door or the window at either end.
Also, I can't help but notice the similarities with how people in large Japanese cities live. Sure they may have more rooms, but about the same amount of space.
By the way you should really get a futon, those things are comfy as hell and take up no room.
what would have made this video cooler is when you opened the door moulder was standing their wearing the lone gunmans lost hat.nope but you went all blair witch without any lighting.fail
catch a clue and try lighting, this would be so much better if the containers were underground and each unit was a member of your survival network.instead of the dorms for dorks.

This reminds me of Corban Dallas' appartment in "the fifth element". I was expecting a floating junk to approach to offer take aways. I think shipping containers are an excellent way into your first home. I'd rather live in my own container than be someone elses rent slave. Thanks for uploading.
well that looks miserable .... Makes me love my place even more 2000 sqft for one person and i drive a corvette that gets 17 mpg LOL God bless America
@waytofastvette Your missing the point of smart housing ideas and eco-friendly living. That Vet wouldn't be much fun if suddenly you couldn't get a single gallon to go 17 miles. That big home likely has a HUGE mortgage payment. What would happen to it if tomorrow - you became unable to work to pay for it? It's about living smarter, not working harder just to keep up with the Jones's. Think about having your own custom home, and little to no house payment.
YOu numbskull, this is more than likely student housing, which, in america, even in the more high class schools, you have to share something about the same size with another person, you have to share a bathroom with 20 other people and you have to PAY for it on top of it. So shut up about other countries and their way of approaching a problem.
Do you live anywhere near the arctic circle? I have seen these types of homes shipped up in the northern regions to house employees in extreme remote areas.
@anahatabalance sure old growth cedars are eco friendly,I only use the heartwood and than I burn the rest returning it to mother earth, and our two hummers allways have the correct tire pressure and i recycle my used oil down an old water well shaft, back where it came from!!I'm doing my part!
I'm sure glad I'm American! we'r building a 5000 sq ft house on 20 acres next year,is that to much?we'r thinking about using old growth ceder to make it eco friendly!
@anahatabalance most Americans do..it was voted environmentally friendly car of the year in the US in 2008 (Because it was a hybrid with a very small electric motor that kicked in only 3% of the time!!) LOL!!!
England had a right laugh!!! It was all over the car news tabloids in England!!!! That thing used at least 1.5x as much gas as ANY normal family car in England!!! hahaahhaa!
wow that's a really cool place! I've lived in a warehouse in Toronto, and a church in the country, and I bought a recycled cottage and plunked it on a new foundation on some wilderness. This container would have been perfect down at my river....i would have put in some skylights....and if in the country, at least south/east windows. These are such great ideas. The creativity is endless! i knew people in the country who built a home with hay bales and concrete. It was so cosy!!!!
I love this idea. With the worlds poputlation growing at an alarming rate the idea of smaller housing is one of need for the future generations. No one NEEDS a big house, every thing you need for living is all fit into a space no larger than what one NEEDS. I am looking at container housing for myself and my man, hoping to find an eco friendly prefab one to be brought to our home town....
That reminds me of the bad old days when I shared a cell in walton jail (Liverpool, england) with a russian named Borris. After 2 days of sharing Boris fell on his face repeatedly when Boris returned from hospital I explained it was my house an my rules. Boris never fell over again an that cell was my home for 8 month.

Good. I like it. But it really needs more built-in storage to keep things tidier.
Small is not a problem, as long as it is tidy and neat.
That requires built in storage spaces to keep junk off the floor and off countertops.
Good way to live green and cheap.
