My friends and I , all surfers, watched this movie last night, and nodoby liked it much, why? We found the film very disappointing, boring and tiring cuz it's too much about Rob's lifestyle where the scenes seem to be kind of too prepared for the movie. Just a few good moments of surfing, some nice footage, but that's all. Not worth watching twice. Movie removed from my laptop.

I just came back from 3 months of traveling and surfing through-out Sumatra, Mentawais, West Java and Bali. It was the best experience of my life so far, We were staying at many of the locations shown in this film.

The"Cheese King" Machado may fool the general public into believing in his heroic, spiritually inspired adventures into the wilds of Indonesia and how he turns his back on the corporate giants of the surf industry, BULL SH!T but he ain't foolin me! Robs ego is a big as his hair!

This would have been a really great film if they used an actor instead of Rob as most of the scenes' were recreated whether they actually happened or not, so its hard for the viewer to take it seriously, it looks like a beautifully shot film to give credit to the camera man.

i have yet to see the movie, but i feel as if it's sort of fake. i know rob's take on life and such (from seeing film and him and what not) but everywhere you look, there's a sponsor company set up for advertisement and camera and crew around him no matter what. wouldnt you have to document this completely on your own to get a true experience? i feel as if this is scripted. any thoughts? (p.s i know it would be hard to make such a powerful film by yourself, but you get the point im getting at)

Happy Days took over & it really was the dead hippie surfer days, remnants of Vietnam war rebellion propaganda + ganja was ostracized. Surfers were called 'airheads' nationally. The good news is that in '89 there was hardly anybody surfing places like El Porto; now overcrowded, & rarely good shape. Like real estate, a phony bunch of hype. Honest'y, I am surprised that the Indonesian Coast Guard had HD video cameras aboard their helicopter when they rescued him. Hell, I'm even surprised they would have a helicopter!

I'm just glad they were able to rescue him... hopefully he learned his lesson about paddling long distances without adequate gear/food/water.
