I can't believe ppl are getting so hung up about coffee! I know that I've ordered a "small black coffee" or a "medium black coffee" at Starbucks dozens of times, and the workers there are never confused about what I want. The ppl who work at Starbucks are human beings, after all, and most agree that the whole "venti loka moki" business is rather silly.

Nice interview... actually "grande" is also the italian word for "big", so they are stupid in only 2 languages

The thing about 'grande', I'm thinking whether this was a mistake or an intended irony that noone would get.. because c'mon the movie is intended to american audiences and they usually don't speak other languages then their own... :D

We know.. that's not the point, the point is the dude was scolding the girl about her italian by saying something wrong himself, which was to imply that 'grande' is not also an italian word. That's the irony that hardly any american viewer will get... :)

yeah, but there is a difference between 'big' and 'large'! saying big wouldn't be correct. when referring to the SIZE you use large! something can be big, but your get a large sized drink/cup or whatever....

yes, but the point is that here in Italy do not really exist coffees of that size... the largest we have is called 'caffè lungo' (long coffee)and it's not even a quarter of the one you would call small. The literal translation of the correct names would be small/medium/big american coffee, not large because we don't use that for drinks. Anyway.. i'm not a big fan of starbucks but with all the money they spend on marketing the least they can do is get an italian word straight
