  • Very useful instruction. I would like something like that for bass guitar.

Watch my "Montuno" on bass on my You Tube Channel.

  • Can someone tell me - is 3-2-2-2-2-2-3 a Montuno rhythm?

  • I do the same but you play it easier. I've leraned something new today :)

  • This is awesome Jean Marc, thanks so much for filming and posting these videos, I rarely comment but this one really taught me some great new things and I wanted to thank you!

  • i'm trying to better understand the rhythm of son montuno but i'm having a hard time...whats the time signature?

  • @jorgetokesalot

The Son Montuno in Duple-Meter and is usually said to be in or felt in "Cut-Time" so you beat your foot twice in each measure when writing in whole, half, quarter and eighth notes or 4 times in a measure if you're writing in whole, half, quarter, eighth notes and 16th notes.

(That is, if clave takes 2 bars is written with 1/4s and 1/8ths or clave in one bar with 8ths and 16ths = 2 foot beats per bar, or, 4 beats per bar, respectively.)

You'll see it written all kinds of ways...

  • @JMBELK

I think your playing it right man. You start your guajeo on the downbeat of 3-2. If your downbeat was at 2-3, THEN you'd be off beat....( crossed)

The guajeo and clave pretty much follow each other. Both start at the first down beat, after that it's all sincopated and they tag along each other.

  • @elbajochevere

hey, that's what I was trying to say (for days!) on the other clip he posted where it's also Cruzado.

Thanks for adding to the cause!

hey, that' s qué intentaba decir (por días!) en el otro clip él fijó donde it' de s Cruzado también. ¡Gracias por agregar a la causa!

  • @elbajochevere buen punto. Esperamos ver una versión mejorada.

  • @elbajochevere

    Saludos.

  • very nice and liberating ,indeed..but the camera focus is too far from the strings and the explaining too fast, which make it an advance lesson of the whole thing. Now, with a slower and patient break- down of the lessons, note by note, this could turn into a miracle...making beginners and intermidiates to soar to unimagible plateaus.
