...that next year will not find us in the higher income bracket, that this taxpayer, underpaid, shall figure out more deductions, and that this tax of the people, by the Congress, for the Government, shall not cause solvency to perish.”
“It is not for us, the taxpayers, to question the tax which the Government has thus far ignobly spent. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these vanishing dollars we take increased devotion to the few remaining—that we here highly resolve...
“We are met on Form 1040. We have come to dedicate a large portion of our income to a final resting place with those men who here spend their lives that they may spend our money. It is altogether anguish and torture that we should do this. But, in a larger sense, we cannot evade, we cannot cheat, we cannot underestimate this tax. The collectors, clever and sly, who compute here, have gone far beyond our poor power to add and subtract.
“One score and 19 years ago, our fathers brought forth upon this nation a new tax, conceived in desperation and dedicated to the proposition that all men are fair game. Now we are engaged in a great mass of calculations, testing whether this taxpayer, or any taxpayer so confused and so impoverished, can long endure.
I memorized in one night. Aced my APUSH Quiz the next day. I don't understand why memorize though? Lincoln didn't have this memorized. He probably forgot everything he said the next day.
@XChrisxRubiX AFTER it is for us the living - DO A LONG PAUSE then say Rather. This should get you started again. Memorize to the RATHER first them remember from the RATHER. Use the same inflections in your voice as I did, because thats what I did from someone else's reading that I liked. Let me know what kind of response you get from your teacher.
abraham lincoln is my favorite president i knoow that seems childish but all presidents that followed tried to make their presidency as legendary as his he led the union to victory and ebalished slavery he moved the world forward we could use more presidents like him
personally, (and i stress the word personally - because its just my opinion) i believe that Sir Winston Churchill's 'we shall fight on the beaches' speech is better
I Have A Dream Speech - by Martin Luther King ranks as one of the all time great speeches.. All 3 mentioned by you and me in our comments are memorable speeches.
I did not vote for Obama, but I was impressed with his speech questions and answers at the Republican gathering today. Yes that was not a typo "Republican gathering".
The Critics are raving about The Gettysburg Address.
