Amazing how many West Ham there were in the North Bank as can be seen by them celebrating the goal. No wonder there was so much trouble in grounds back then.
I cannot believe how muddy that pitch was! I think the semi West Ham played v Ipswich was at Highbury too, and the pitch not much better then either! It became much better after George Graham became manager, and remained so until closure in 2006.
My first match.... Lost 0-2 and yes, would have to concede that West Ham took the North Bank, but it was still a memorable day. High laced doc martens and a parka (seemed to go together at the time....) and a lace scarf around my wrist. Thought I was the business:-) Remember some fellow gooner getting a mob together to steam into West Ham at the back of the North Bank....then getting carried out with what looked like a broken leg. Those were the days.....
what a day that was, my first away game, l must have just been just 13, all the older lads from school said get in the northbank it will be all west ham, it was so packed when the goals went in my feet were off the ground for full 5 minutes! one of the kids from our estate ponced some claret and blue face paint off a girl, afterwards with all the rain and sweat he looked like he`d been in a house fire! great days !! cheers pogo.
Around 5,000 (no exaggeration),
this was pre icf and westham always took every end in london no prob'
Only stopped when police started manning the turnstiles with a questionairre for anyone that didn't look like a home supporter

@converse91970 The semi-replay was at Stamford Bridge. During that particular match there was a blizzard, in April I ask you!

Didn't West Ham have about 20,000 there? They're all over the North Stand.
