I like your spring locks ,they are awesome .I am trying to grow my hair out ,because am fed up with relaxers I would like to find someone to lock my hair up. I don't know where you at ,but I would travel to get my hair locked up,take care awesome videos you are inspiring lots of sisters to go back to their roots .
Not only is your face and your hair is beautiful, you also have a beautiful persona. I can pick up your vibes over the internet. Thank you for representing real black beautiful woman.
im new to your video's and im not sure if somebody already asked or if you have a video out for it but my boyfriend has dreads and he wants me to do styles in his hair can you make a styling video? he is from stl and they do a style called spider braids I've seen them just don't know how to do them....
I don't think she ever did the other video, but anyway, it's just pipe cleaners that will give you that look she just chooses to call them springlocks. She has the name of it right in the name of her video...locks using pipe cleaners.
May I ask how long did it take for you to grow your hair out like that? Did you already have a nice length? and what hairgrowth supporting products do you recommend?
I have been natural now for 2 years and I loveit Just waiting to get the sisterlocs. Waiting for the perm to fully grow out.
your hair is so beautiful man. I have traditional locs. It's been about nine months now. My main concernis that i had some bumps in the back plaits and i loosed them out and replaited them. Now they're so thin!!
wow! I would love to do a vid with u! i have had my sisterlocks for 9yrs and youre right, people ,even in nyc) stop me to ask me if its my real hair and they cant believe that we can have long beautiful hair and it be ours!
I love your spring locks - thank you for the styling demo! My Sisterlocks are 10 years old (started by Sisterlocks consultant Barbara Bramwell.) I took the re-tightening course and care for them myself. The only thing is, I have trouble holding a curl. I mostly wear them hanging straight down to my wait. But I would love to try your spring lock "mama sita coil" technique you have invented. Where can I get your instructional video?
You have such a warm personality. I love all the ideas you give me for my sisterlocks. I am at 4.5 years I can not wait to get to year 9. Your locks are lovely and I love the spring curls. I enjoy seeing the new styles you suggest and show.
I think most of all women want long hair. I thought it was just a dream at first but there is a way for black women to have long goddess hair and that is by keeping our hair natural. I used to feel sorry for all my friends who kept perming their hair in hopes of making their hair longer. Long hair makes a woman feel like a goddess i think. I can see how happy you feel to have your own hair without the extensions or chemical alterations.
how often do you style your hair with aids. ie putting in spring locs, mama sista twists etc. I know you can do multiple styles from various stages but I want to make sure I am not manipulating my roots to often to do so. thanks.
Hi1cradle2. This is a good question. I don't style my hair very often. This is the reason that it is so healthy. I don't over manipulate my hair. I'll usually style for special occasions and the videos. So if I'm planning to go somewhere and I want my hair to look nice, I'll try to plan enough time to get some footage for a video. In year 6 of having my locks I went to a salon to have someone "style" my hair. What a mistake. It was way too tight and I took my hair down as soon as I got home.
your spring coils are very nice. it's really nice to know that you could do so many things now with locks.i know that your going to be releasing instructional dvd's this year if in fact there already out, being that i'm posting this response in aug/08. my question is about the hair jewels your wearing, at what stage did you apply them to your locks. i have sisterlocks, however there in the baby stages could jewels be added at this stag,or wait until there mature. marcia
Hi xanbux124. I know it's tempting to add jewelry and style your new Sisterlocks, but please wait until your hair is more settled. I wouldn't recommend putting anything in your locks and doing any extra styling until you've had your Sisterlocks for at least a good year or so. It's very important for you to allow the locking process to take it's course in order for you to have the kind of locks that you want. Be patient Sis. Your locks are already beautiful without the jewelry.
Hi musicaddicted3000. Absolutely. What you see on this video is only a "temporary" style. My natural locks are extremely straight. Most people's locks are. We style, crimp, curl, plait, roll, and twist to create different textures and styling options for the locks. Great question and good luck on your lock journey.
Those look great! I have short post-chop natural hair right now and only recently have I considered dreadlocks. If I do get locks, I'll probably get sisterlocks because they look the best to me.
Hi bemaniac2. Quite easy actually. 2 1/2 hours during my grooming session every 6 weeks and then shampoo and condition at least once a week. I maintain moisture content with my HealthyLocks Conditioning mist every other day or so and that is it. Easy. Happy Nappy Hair FREEDOM!!!!
First of all your locks are gorgeous. My daughter has 20inches of very long thick relaxed hair, now she's deciding she wants locks. She wants to know is there a way to lock permed hair without cutting the perm out?
Hi brinny776. Permed hair can be locked, but is take on more of a matted appearance like caucasian locks and you'll have the two dfferent textures going until you decide to cut off the permed ends. Consider the Sisterlocks or any of the "looping" techniques like braidlocz, crochet, latching to help keep the hair together better during the locking process.
i love your hair. i just recently went natural this february! i now have 3 inches of beautiful virgin hair that i plan to loc. im a little scared bcuz im still in the "mental" transition. but u have inspired me
Hi SammiJ86. It'll be nearly impossible to convert your traditional locks into Sisterlocks. You'll have to grow out your locks to get a sufficient length of new growth. The best way would be to start with 3-4 inches of natural hair.
hey video profits. I am going to work overseas for over a year in asia and I would like to do sisterlocks but I will be leaving in a little as 2 months. What do you reccommend? is there a way I can keep up the sisterlocks style without taking the class seeing as how you have to wait a certain amount of time before you can even take the class?
Hi CzarDaniel, you may want to look into alternative locking methods like braidlocs and crochet locks. They won't be as small and refined, however. Both of these techniques usually start with small individual plaits, which are looped and pulled through the base of the new growth to tighten and maintain. Do a search on YouTube. I'm sure you'll find some footage. Both of these techniques will be covered in detail in my "Healthylocks System" instructional DVD coming out soon.
Hi quake1920. It's amazing to me how many of us with Sisterlocks are lacking when it comes to styling. I can't wait to share with you all the great things you can do to change up your look. Look for the DVD's by the end of spring 2008.
I tried the technique on the back of my head...I have sisterlocks as well and loved the result...I have twisted my hair before but never thought to combine just three or four of my locs and get the desired results...I love it....
Love those locks! mine are a little thicker than yours and a little pass my shoulders. will i be able to spiral mine like that? i will check out your site because although this is my third year, i need to learn more.
your hair is gorgeous!! I would love to order the video. I've been wearing locs for 3 1/2 years and currently retwisting the roots. I love curly locs and looking for a wedding style. Thanks again :-)
Thank you. Shorter locks are a style all their own because you can just tousle and go. I don't really suggest too much aggressive styling with shorter locks becuase the locks are usually still in their forming stage. I recommend accesorizing with scarves, hats and headbands.
Thank you tayluve. Check out video #1 (Creative Styling). Although it won't show the technique (that'll be on the instructional video)you'll see how half of my head was wrapped.
I love your approach and the way you instruct. You have a beautiful spirit, and beautiful hair. Thanks.
