@mandible92 I have heard Gerber was re-issuing it with improved construction. I have the biggest folding knife that I use at work (electrician) to open boxes, packages or cut wires if don't have my side cutters. I have an old buck knife that is 6 inches long and is a great knife. I also take a Ka-Bar Becker Magnum Camp and a Ka-Bar Becker Combat Bowie that I take out camping with me, just in case I break one or lose one I got spares.

@carlsoto1747 oh nice, i have been a user of hanwei and gil hibben knives for a while and they're pretty decent, and i have heard ka-bar and cold steel had amazing knives as well, but from all the recent reviews of the re-issued knife from bear, they have fixed a few problems but the quality of the steel isnt ideal for survival situations due to the grade of the steel they're using

@mandible92 I wouldn't trust a "survival" knife that's under 130 dollars personally. I also think serrated knifes are no good for survival. Yeah it makes cutting rope and similar things easier, but if it's a good quality steel it should be able to hold a sharp enough edge to cut through anything without serrates. Cold Steel and Ka- Bars are amazing, I just use the Gerber BG folder due to the handle being a grippy handle, and I don't want to drop a knife while 20-30 feet above guys working,

@mandible92 Full tangs are the best for outdoors. I haven't used much cold steel for camping, that's more of a showcase knife for me. My buddy has one and his is great. For camping I take my Ka-Bar Becker Magnum Camp (flat grind, 8" blade) it's a tad bulky to carry on the hip while hiking, so I leave it in my pack. I carry on my hip a Ka- Bar Becker Campanion (flat grind, 5-1/4" blade). My buddy has a Cold Steel Leatherneck- SF that he likes, it's a sharp USMC knife. Check out CRKT as well.

@mandible92 It actually depends on your need. I tend to go camping in grizzly territory and in Canada it's illegal to carry a rifle in national parks. So I take my 2 knives, the shorter on my hip and the big one on the edge of my pack for emergency. Ka- Bar are used by USMC so they're pretty reliable. Cold Steel simply make amazing blades and CRKT (Columbia Knife and Tool) are stepping up and producing good blades. If you Hanwei and Hibben haven't let you down, then I'd keep using those too.

@tacokiller101 Oh I wouldn't buy this product, simply because it's much better to build your own survival kit, rather then buy one. I built my own using my own stuff. Fire steel, dryer lint (much more flammable than cotton balls, and free!), fishing line/hooks, electrical tape (handy), baler wire, mirror, foil blanket, great compass, standard size swiss army knife and others. You should never need to carry a survival kit when out backpacking because, well you should be prepared to camp!
