What I've been hearing a lot of from guys like DL is that they're actually using the same tuning as records like continent, it's just much easier to use a guitar that's made for playing that low. People love those 6 string Eclipses (myself included), but for recording and especially for "ease of use" on the road I think a lot of dudes are gonna be jumping on the 8-string train. Just to try and answer that for you, sorry if I came off like a D-bag.
