a couple of rescue persons entered the mine but did not go far apparently a body was seen but it is not confirmed. There is no news recently and to be honest It feels like they have given up. There is something on the news about a contract or new owners or something I'am unsure but still they have not be recovered. 0 chance that they were alive in the first place too many issues with this mine for an example ventilation.
There was one family at my dads mine where he works who's father died in a mining accident one night. After the accident the family wanted to go underground to the scene where he died and the 3 children placed teddy bears at the scene. It was a very sad story.
Guilty....you knew from the start those boys or men where in danger.....but what can I say .....Those gueys arent stupid......they did study and learnerd a thing or 2....better than a mine manager....What can I say pay, peanuts and expect monkeys. Its all manangements fault abd I mean Ingeneurs(Ingeneers)
Reddman, all electrical equipment used underground in coal mines has to have intrinsically safe certification to make sure it cannot trigger an explosion. It's also pitch black in most parts of a mine. It's darker than most people will ever have experienced. You could stick your finger in your eye and still not see it. Away from the pit bottom it's rare to have any lights so the camera would be ineffective. All it would see, at best, would be the beams of the miners' cap lamps moving about.
your dead man tags are your own responsibility, if guys aren't putting them on the board properly, the pit boss has to get on them. and the shift boss should be checking gas levels at intervals during the shift
mine administration should be directly responsible for monitoring who is up or down, not relyig on folk to drop or pick up tags; when it is acknowledged that men forget to place their tags, it is acknowledged the system doesn't work. Mine administration is directly responsible for this poor practice and cannot rest on the fact that it's always been done that way. if it's broke, fix it. mr. whitall doesn't realize how blatantly illogical he is. he is sincere perhaps but decidedly illogical.
if the ventilation was adequate and if the sensors were functioning and the power trips were adequate, etc. there would nave been no explosion; clearly, a failure was made; he almost admits it; why not admit to being human directly and state directly that these same mistakes will not be repeated? i think perhaps it is clear that corporations work to their financial bottom lines first and foremost regardless of who else pays. mines should be national not private; n.z. coal belongs to n.z. etc

Have these guys heard of a security camera system? That would be one of the minimums I'd expect in such an occupation.
