I only seem to hear avant-garde noise tracks and rap on KTRU. I finally gave up waiting for them to play any college radio music, since they seem to think that would be "selling out". The whole thing seems like kind of a waste and has really hurt the attempt to have any kind of a music scene and to get good bands to play here, (but what do I know).
@chasspeed You real hit the nail on the head here. The next generation of KTRU leadership is sort of fed up with being forced to play noise music and cat sounds (no joke), so hopefully there will be a return to music that is not only indie but also, heaven forbid, pleasurable to listen to.
@bokanovskyprocess I have just never heard of any college radio station so dead set against playing anything that resembles music. I have heard the frog sounds records (not kidding), but not the cat sounds.
They try. KTRU is the only major (by wattage) college station in the country that provides zero compensation to its managers or DJs. All others get class credit or ki$h ca$h.
The community DJs that come on in the evenings are very good. Especially D.L. Tuesday nights, Cliff on Wednesdays, and MK Ultra (show, not one specific dj) on Friday nights.
This is wonderful! JD looks so young, and Johanna is wearing the most fabulous outfit! I'm in rapture! Have you got any footage of when Sadie was in the band?
they made me feel validated during such a bad year in mainstream music! love you babes!!

Be sure to check out part 2. If you discount Katleen talking between songs, I've actually put up about 80% of the concert.

2000 is the earliest video I have on the band. I filmed them once more a few years later.
