  • Orion is certainly a beautiful sight to gaze at, one of my favorites for sure.

  • waow. amazing.. today night i m gonna locate the orion belt...

  • I love The Orion it is beautiful. where I am from we see it in the summer time.

  • 776 light years.... thinking about that just totally melts my brain

  • wow thanks a million for this upload.. i'm going out to luck now!!!!

  • Infinite Possibilities Lay Beyond Our Home.....

....But It Is Our Job To Bring It To Life.

    - Astronomy

  • my favorite constellation everrrrrr.

  • if you like this you should watch carl sagans cosmos =]

  • Very mysterious!

  • My mom and I saw a bright blue giant star called Rigel last night from my bedroom window.

  • But to see the nebula colors you need a very long photo exposure, no?

  • I love Orion, too. When I was single and lonely, I would look up at Orion and feel my heart ache! I'm weird, falling in love with a constellation -- But when my little son was born years later, I named him Orion, because he is so strong and beautiful and always hunting for good things in his little life.

  • thats awesome.

  • I wish that we could travel to all the stars and see them with our own eyes, what glory that would be.

  • I agree

  • Great video, very educational and quite humbling to think just how huge the universe is.

  • Orion is my favorite constelation :D I love Orion. My motives are personal though :D

  • Super video, enjoyed it very much

  • For some reason, his voice comforts me.

  • now that i think of it,

    lights slow

  • wow this was really helpful :)

  • well i thought this was going to be a metallica cover but no its education

  • hola, buenaso el video y que buena ayuda brindan a personas interesadas en este tema.

aunque no entiendo mucho, porqu esta en ingles, y yo soy peruano, que habla el castellano.

    peor puedo entender algo..

    gracias.

    espero respuestas y consejos

  • EXCELLENT Video.!

Please where can i find more information on RIGEL?

    Thank u

  • A little known Fact Is the Star of Orion is said to be the Devils star (AKA) Satan, Lucifer, Amun Ra, Amun or The prince of darkness to name a few names. The beings on this planet are said to be Reptilian beings. Remember in the bible its speaks of a snake that talks? well a snake is a reptile & that snake also happens to be dubbed the Devil. Look it up. I'm just pointing out an interesting fact.

  • not really. It is most used as the Throne of God.

There are also many ancient Orphic texts that confirm this. And Ra, or Re as the Sun is used even in the oldest scripts of the Bible representing Jesus. Also in many egipt texts, Orion is the Throne of God, as you know ancient orphism, the egypt belief and early christianity have a lot of common stuff. IN fact a common God, ot Three-One God;-).

  • That's not surprising. Gods take on many names as does the "Devil". Many call the devil a God. IMO the true GOD is everything that is including good & evil like Ying & Yang. If Ying and Yang were to represent all there is, then "GOD" would be the backdrop which both symbols were drawn on. When you really think about it, we and everything there is are all GOD. To me whats important is the discipline of the mind. When its all said & done negative will go where negative belongs as will positive.

  • Great! 5 stars from me! Rigel is one of my favorite stars =)

  • nice

  • Can everyone check the Orion in google Earth (in mode Sky)? I'll do it, later.

Buy the way can someone have on your skin beauty spot "belt of Orion"? I have :P

  • i have all the stars of orion on my arms i have the sword and the arrow two perfect triangle and on my face the map of orion complete with the belt the two middle ones and the bottom and top 2 :)............. i knew some one who had some thing similar like mine but not complete

  • okie lemme know what it means when you find out what that means

  • Great video! please do more of these!

  • The Orion Nebula is amazing every time I look at it.. so cool!

  • Yup love to gaze at it too.

    Can see it every night.

  • lucky! I can only see it in the winter time

  • Great little tutorial on Orion. Fascinating!

  • waw... it's explain me.... nice

  • thanks for this upload!

  • Great explanation and use of visuals. Thanks for posting.

  • Orion constellation is very easy to spot due to its' belt. next is the big dipper with spoon or pan like.

  • Thank you. Great info! When I obtained my first, good telescope I set my sights on Orion. I "aimed" at the belt, being, in my mind, the easiest to capture as a first experience user. I hit right on the 1st go at the center star. I was panning slowly everything turned black. I thought my eyepiece bad, that I lowered and was aimed at a wall. I moved the scope just a tad and was stunned by an eyeful of stars Moved left and black again. Later I learned I had actually saw Orion's Nebulae! Stunning!

  • what kind of telescope did you use? or uhmm.. What's the name and brand of your telescope? and, how far can it go?

  • very cool, thank you for the info

  • wow, that was explained really well. thanks for this.

  • i love ORION'S belt that was the first thing i learned when i got into astronomy. I was looking at ORION nebula last night amazing

  • 1. copy and paste to 8 other videos

    2.look at your profile backround

  • Bye bye Bellatrix... see ya Saiph. Oh well, I will enjoy the summer.

  • i dream of orion. my name is diana - meaning huntress from greek artemis.

this is so freaky . i got goosebumps. how can everything be so precise . and im curious becuase of my dreams, dragons and stars. what could it mean?

  • It means that you love me :-)

  • Fantastic video.

  • I have to say, from South Africa, in summer time, especially here on the farm, it is clearly visible and very beautiful.

  • I was looking at M42 earlier tonight. Very nice view of it from Houston right now with just a 70cm refractor.

  • i have seen orion and it is my favourite constellation and rigel and betelgeuse are two my favourite stars

  • how does it look with 15x70mm binoculars? any good?

  • I have 16X70 Binos which give me a nice view of the Orion nebula when under a DARK SKY during new moon. From a light polluted city it might just look like a comma shaped star.

  • Watch my video celestia space

  • This is very good. I loved this video. very informatic.? if thats a word. lol

  • The name Orion means plowman, not haunter. It's Macedonian word for plowman, in the modern Macedonian Orach, construted from 2 words: ori (plow) and on (he). That means "he plow" оr plowman = Ori + on. In the macedonian traditional astronomy interpret this constellation as "The 3 plowmen" or "Plowman". It's =to Orion. The constelation Orion show the time for work in the summer in the macedonian culture. The time for plowing at the morning. In that time in the summer Orion rise at the east sky.

  • Orion is my fav constellation!!it;s the first i ve learnt and observed in sky last year!!!!so fascinating...

  • Sirius is 9 light years from earth so i wonder how can we get to the Big Deeper. is it even possible??

  • i'd watch the orion belt tonight, it realy is beautyfull!!!

  • I saw and identified Orion for the first time ever tonight, it's been a beautiful cloudless night in north west England and the stars were so bright. I first noticed Betelgeuse because it seemed to be orange/red and initially I wondered if it was Mars which is why I decided to investigate.

  • Tonight I recognized Orion for the first time in the sky. :)

  • oh thanks, this really helped. i found Orion in the sky yesterday but i forgot where the nebula is. once the clouds clear up ill look at this with my 5-inch telescope >:3

  • at least u have a telescope!

  • Busy some binoculars 10x50, if yu want something more a basic Meade scope can be had for under $100. Good place to start.

  • i hope to do the same when i get to college in 1.5 yrs!

  • im going for a PhD in astronomy

  • Very nice. :)

  • It gets me thinking all the time on how big the universe rallys is.. you know how big space is and where it ends???

great stuff tho.. i do believe there is life else where aswell

  • u know what sucks is almost knowing that we will never kno how big the universe is and its secrets. i do believe theres life out there i just dont kno if they come here. but i think like look what humans did in 125 years imagine if we had a thousand or a million or a billion because were not sure how old the universe could be.. its crazy theres so many questions and almost no answers

  • I know yeah its mad to even think it.... But i always ask myself tho what type of life there is.. Is there other humans..is there wildlife different to ours etc etc... I do believe tho were not alone..That has to be a curtain thing......but as you say we are never going to know

  • really thanks for information :)

  • dang! i love sirius!

  • It´s funny Orion is upside down in

the southern countries of the Earth.

I live in Northern Europe and that´s the view.

One of the best evidencies that the Earth

    is a globe.

  • so now youre convinced?

  • Yes. But I´m sad I have not seen Orion

upside down in a true life.

Travelling to Australia is very expensive.

  • Sirus! I literally was outside looking at Orion (Luckily it's a clear sky tonight) and saw that bright star on the left which I wasn't aware of, the video answered it for me =]

  • *Sirius.

  • thanks for posting this vid. i'm trying to get in to astronomy but it's very difficult. i cant seem to operate my telescope and nothing looks in the sky the way it does in my book... this video is hlepful keep them coming

  • has there been a certain object shining brightly for the past few days? cuz i have seen the same star/galaxy whatever and it seems unusual to see it by itself without any other stars

  • Thanks for posting.

  • is this from the southern or northern hemisphere?

  • I live in the northwest of the US and it's in the east at about 11pm mountain time.

  • Thank you! This was very interesting. I just started watching the starts on an amature level my self, and studied orion just a few minutes ago ! Cheers.

  • thank you

  • Im curious. I read somewhere that the fantastic images of galaxies returned by Hubble - in fact all astro photography - are electronically processed with filters and long exposure times, that is to say, they would not appear that way to a traveler in space looking at them with the naked eye. Is this true? Thanks!

  • Yes, you would not see it that well with the naked eye. You don't need to process the image though, you just need to take long exposures.

  • Incredibly interesting. Thank you very much.

  • yea theres no way that we can be the only ones

  • wow!! so if one if orions stars would die we would not know until 700 hundred years after it did, that's very interesting.

  • When you look at the night sky, you are always looking at the past.

  • So much beautiful !!!

Explanation is so much interesting and easy to understand.

    Thankyou very much.

  • the orion nebula looks absolutely lovely in my 10". truely an all-around favourite.

  • Very much enjoyed this.

  • Actually, Orion rises from the Southeast horizon. By Early November, it is nearly overhead by 2:00 AM, slightly to the south.

Interesting to note is that this star confiuration was worshipped by the ancient Egyptians, along with other ancient civilizations 5,000 years ago - and yet the stars are moving at speeds of 18 to 30 miles per second in a variety of directions and have been for billions of years.

Yet the relative position of each of the stars is nearly identical to this day.

  • probably the most beautiful of all the constalations.

  • Indeed, especiallty to the naked eye. The geometry of the configuration seems to carry a very special significance within my genetic memory, (my best explanation), because I can truly feel an overwhelming awe - likely the same as experienced by the ancients when they gazed at it, trying to make sense of it all.

  • MichaelRMcCoy you stated: Orion rises from the Southeast horizon By Early November.

Now,now you know the children have a thing for "Santa"..lol

  • from where i am..its freakin cloudyyy..freakin monsoonnnnn..aaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • You can see it in the south @ 1:00am-2:00am right now!

  • the farthest object that u can see with ur naked eye is a galaxie and you can see this at the north pole its only seen as a dote thow

  • Yes, this is true. You can See Andromeda which is a galaxy 2.2 million light years from here with the naked eye, just above the tail of the constellation Andromeda!

  • Apart from when there's a gamma ray burst of course. One of those, earlier this year, was visible with the naked eye, and it was about 3000 times further away than M31!

  • thanks - great video - very informative

  • no there are few occasions that it can be seen, in early morn and early eve, but IT is hard to see

  • I saw Orion in the sky tonight, it's an awesome sight.

  • My grandson's name!

  • Does anyone know what the bright 'star' is in the S.W. off the coast of England is? Is it the ISS? Looks too big to be a star.

  • jupiter?

there is agreat free observation program called stellarium, it is free

  • Really - the bright star to the SW is Jupiter - I didn't think that was visible to the naked eye?

  • yes the five inner planets can be seen with the naked eye, saturn, jupiter, mars, and venus, mercury is really hard to see, but can be done

good luck and keep looking up, lol

  • Thanks for that - it's been annoying me for ages.

  • My name is ORION but i dont like if ppl call my name like 'oraien' its just orion:P

  • I bet ur parents are/were astronomers

  • umm i just saw orion and betelguese last night as in last SUMMER night. Im guessing you're in the southern hemisphere?

  • Orion is only visible in the winter in the Northern hemisphere. During other parts of the year you may catch it in the early AM or late at night. Orion is by Gemini. Gemini is associated with the months of June-July, through horoscopes (we are ignoring the fact that due to precession that is slightly off), meaning the Sun is within that area of the sky in those months (the general Taurus-Orion-Gemini region), and thus we can't see Orion (the sun is too bright).

  • In the Winter, the Sun is now on the other side--within the general Sagittarius region (inside the winter horoscope signs, constellations we see in the sky in summer). Since the sun is now opposite, Orion is prominent in the sky.

If it helps, I'm about to graduate with a degree in astronomy, and I work at a planetarium and give talks on the stars and constellations regularly.

*this is to respond to ninjakid3000's comment

  • i swear i did. it was 5:30am in the morning and i saw it and i know it was orion becuase of the belt of 3 stars and the 3 bright ones at the top

  • Yeah that sounds about right. Once the sun is far enough past Orion (from our perspective), you can catch it before sunrise, so that makes sense. Basically it's a matter of how close the sun is (from our Earth view) to Orion. 5:30, before sunrise-ish, does make sense, especially if within the last month. I think I took the word "night" a little too literally when I read your post.

  • betelguese = bettle juice

  • i saw tis befer...is easy to spot really!!!

  • since the 23 of june 2008 the moon have change it location position .. is anybody noticed it ?

And what that meen ? how is that possible ?

Is anybody know what happen ?

  • The Earth Is NOT, I Repeat NOT On a SET In STONE Pattern, We Are No Way,Shape, or Form "Safe" From Our Universe A Massive Collision 2 Light Years Away Could Send A CHUNK Fragment As big As The moon hurtling Toward Earth. SPACE Is Wild and unpredictable Get Used To Shit Not Looking "Normal"

  • O.o ... Sure it is ...

2036 , is the date of the collision o.o

(Last time it passed , it miss us from short)

They event speculate calculated it trajectoire to confirm an impact somewhere in north america.

  • If you went out every night at the same time and recorded the moon's position it would change by 12 degrees a day. Also, realize that half the time, the moon is only visible in the day time (depends on the proximity to the sun, from our perspective). This is due to the fact the moon goes around the Earth--in a little less than a month actually. This is what is also responsible for the phases in fact.

  • Aah ! Thank you very much !!

I tough I was going nuts ! lol

    ^^,

  • in the Bible,

    Job

Chapter.38.31 Cast thou bind the sweet influnces of PLEIADES, or loose the BANDS OF ORION....that is good Astronomy

  • hey, thanks a lot for the vid. it helped with my daughters assignment.

  • let me dream tarpano

  • wow orion! haha. i saw thats before. its kinda easy to spot it out. But nowadays it weirdo, i cant see it anymore. dam weird. i used to see it from my balcony.

  • As the earth orbits the sun we lose sight of some constellations. This is because they are above the horizon during daylight. In mid June, Orion is directly below the sun, by September it will be visible before sunrise above the East horizon.

  • thank you for this video

  • I think I've figured out what I'm going to call this kind of pedagogy. Book report pedagogy!

  • seems every time i look up, orion is right there

  • Best Constellation EVER

  • My grandson's name is Orion.

  • wow!!

  • The superimposed figure of "the Hunter" is backwards, it should be facing Aldebaran which is the alpha star of Taurus.

Please teke care of those little details

  • That image is correct. It is Johann Bayers image, which does face opposite of most other drawings.

  • It is flexible depending on the interpretation and originating culture. Orion is typically towards Taurus, hunting him it seems, but not always. In fact, in many other nations as well as American Indian, the constellation we know as Orion is still a man, but depicted otherwise. In Australia, he is upside down, and rather than being a hunter, is lowsy and no one likes him. Constellations are always open to a little interpretation, it just depends on the version.

  • The PYRAMİDS look like Orion stars..

Please you should watch this video:

Graham Hancock - Quest for the lost civilization part 05/14

    watch?v=ojxoJ0ZHKJ0&feature=related

  • Scientists predict that Betelgeuse is allready gone SuperNova. We just have to wait for the light from there.

  • why... plsams 138 because one day he will call them to praise him. he will call them by name. so if you gana look 2 sumin to believe look at the creator rather than creation..sir you do err

  • Orion ( the "NAME" of a star Job 38:32) what this man has done is take this ONE 1 little verse out of the bible and made a science out of it. thats as stupid as rudof the red noise rain dare and santa climbing down the chimny 2 eat your mamas cookies. Psalms 147:4 He(GOD) telleth the number of the stars, and calleth them by 'NAME' .....

  • And im not stupid, I know what your dumb shit writing says, I am THAT Intelligent

  • For the last time it is none of your concern how bright a person is. I will let you know, my Intelligence Quotient is way higher than most and I am one of the brightest around, BUT you don't see me trying to be ignorant and stupid by correcting people who don't feel like typing entire words. For = 4/ YOU = U, get over it. Laugh out loud = LOL.. GET OVER IT

  • No you don't! Why do you think it's okay to try and "sharpen" up a person? They don't have to be sharpened and they don't need to change so don't be retarded you are NOT God.

  • Okay listen up, you think that EVERYONE can use what they learned in school and just magically get it? What if the dude is mental or does not give a shit about spelling, grammar, etc?? It's not your business to try and school someone else is what I am saying.

  • No, you just dont ever hint what he could do or could not do, its none of your business to try and tell someone what they could write you dumb ass.

  • Dont tell people how to write certain words you idiot. It ain't illegal so go to hell pal.

  • ""It's not illegal to write 'to' you know"""., big deal if he don't put "TO" just shut the fuck up dude.

  • What the fuck kind of comment is that dude?

  • The Orion Constellation is my favorite, how could you not love such history? Beetlgeuce is 427 ly away and it has been documented as far back as 4000 BC. Plus the M42 Nebula. All you need for good astronomy is right there.

  • my favorite group of stars is orion.

    I used to watch often.

    Rosario Rajkumar

  • i seen the stars almost every nite in singapore...manage to see the orion belt, rigel n betelgeuse..but i never pay attention to sirius...must look forward 2 it 2nite... :)...amazing tat it took 700+ yrs 2 travel 2 earth...WOW...

  • i saw it on feb. 22, 2008 7:52 or i think 6:52

    i dont remember

  • original humans come from Orions belt

  • No brother,you do!

  • Time travel is posible.Astronomers had travel back in time(throu their telescopes),to see the stars formation and begining of the universe, long time ago.

  • Isn't that a space issue rather than time? Just wondering because I do find your comment interesting:)

  • Yes and Sirius(my favourite)and Arcturus.

  • M42 is my favorite night object. I'm using a 114mm reflection scope with no filters so its not as colorful as your video

  • im using the ame thing to lol, i just got mine...

  • Need more video's like this on YouTube...

Amazing video, thank you for posting it :)

  • I agree

  • fuck astronomy, your all a bunch of tosers. Fuck orion, how bout all the fuckin ufos that are being traced evey day, wankers

  • it is right in fron of me right now....wow!

  • its so hard so locate orion. even during february

  • r u kidding? is in plain sight

  • I live in SoCal and I can barely ever make out any constellations cus of smog and light pollution. Orion, however, is the only one that I can always see.

  • I just got a meade etx backpack observatory...

  • I know 'em mate. I know everything about astronomy and im just 15. The stars are called "from the left": Alnitak", "Alnilam" and the one on the right is called Mintake.

  • I'm trying to get the name of the 3 stars that make Orion's belt sirs?

  • aka: the three kings

  • Great instructions on understanding one of the most interesting parts of the sky.

  • I liked the video. I just bought a celestron astromaster 130 newtonian. first telescope.

  • Comment removed

  • "Our Father God, knows every star by name! And He made them and hung them were they are today in our universes."

    Except that they also move.

  • Yes, this entire universe moves! Everything is in motion.
