This song is VERY different from all of the other songs from Californication. In fact i would have guessed that it would be from By the way b-sides, because it sounds more like the style from that album. I don't think that it got on the album of Californication because of the fact that it was not like the oter songs on the album - but bloody hell road trippin' wasen't like the others either!

anthony actually ended up hating this song, and glad it didnt wind up on the album, well he technically said he was glad they figured out californication (the song) and that it didnt wind up on the album with "garbage like quixotic elixer".....idk why i think it sounds good

Actually, Anthony liked Quixotic Elixir very much and hoped that it would make it to the record, since he writes in Scar Tissue (book), when the instrumentals to Californication (song) finally were figured out by John: "It was such a sensation of relief and gratification, to know that the song [Californication] didn't end up in the same trash bin as 'Quixotic Elixir' and a number of other songs I had high hopes for." [p. 418]

the other guy is right though, this song still ended up in a trash bin (but i do like it its really good) whether he had high hopes for it or not. he may have wanted the song to turn out better, but it never came to fit the expectations. ive read the book 5 times now--how sad, lol. maybe he just didnt like the lyrics at the time, and then they fixed it up to release as a B-side. just my input...

Although "Quixote" IS pronounced with the modern Spanish j (and old Spanish x), the adjective, "quixotic" is an English adjective and is pronounced with the English "x" and English "Qu", meaning it starts with the same sound as "QUIck" and ends with the same sound as "eXOTIC".
