You have 3 things you can change: Saucer, Engines, Body. With those three things, you have about 4 or 5 options for each.

The only thing endless about Star Trek Online is its repetitive gameplay, poor implementation and horribleness. It's a crap game.

There are so many great vessels in the star trek universe! I cannot help noticing there does not seem to be any vessels smaller than star ship size! I would want to fly some of the shuttles as well like the TNG shuttlecraft Goddard and from TOS shuttlecraft Galileo they should have these kinds of vessels!

@redgaridose actually Dev catch you with that name in game, they give you the option to rename your ship, or they will pic one for you. caught with it a second time, you get to go to time out and they decide to remove you or it. ;)

I'm sorry, but I won't pay $216+ dollars a year to play ANY game. That's crazy. I guess the developers are basically catering to the most hard-core fans with this one. It's a shame.

it's set a few decades after the tv shows and mentions the events of the 2009 movie as has having created an alternate timeline, and Nimoy narrates some parts of it as Spock. other than that what "story" is it based on?

Those ship designs are definately not in the game. You get like 3 choices each teir

Actually, you get 9 choices for each tier and each base model can be further customized: Color, window style, saucer, hull, struts, nacelles, etc.

Tactical gets 3 choices per tier, Science gets 3 and Engineering gets 3.

You receive one ship for free each tier, immediately after leveling, and additional ships per tier cost credits. (Tier 2 ships cost about 20,000 credits, Tier 3 cost about $60,000, etc.)

Regardless of what type of officer you are, you can choose any ship to captain.

ok. but i still want to know that, there is a ticket/voucher to some weeks of play (credits) or you must buy time credits, ALONG with the game itself? because, if that is so, even myself being a huge S.Trek fan, i'm not going to buy it until the prices drop a lot, cuz in my country, which sucks a lot (Brazil), the dang thang costs about 60US$, and 60 days, another freaking 60US$. this quantity, here, is too expensive to pay for a game. even so, i'm a trekkie and not poor =O

LauxRO . . when you buy the retail dvd (ie from a shop) you have 30 days free play. Then you pay around $18 US per month on a monthly basis.

You get 30 days of free play time with the purchase of the game, but you will have to enter a credit card to redeem that free play time. Essentially, they'll credit you with the free 30 days, and then it's up to you to stop the recurring payment if you want to use game cards or stop your subscription after your "free" month is up.

And as others have said, you can get a buddy pass to see if you like the game before buying it.

Yeah, it's just a taste of fighting the Borg on first couple of missions leading up to your battlefield commission as captain, and then you kind of work your way up fighting Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians, etc, and then Borg again later in the game.

To play the trial you're going to need a buddy pass. Your best shot is to register on the official forums and ask around, there should be plenty of players who have passes.

Unless, these are the mods the fans make for the ships and the players have a choice in the matter. I dunno. After Legacy, I am rather reticent at the thought of multi-role tactical games. Unless, of course, they LISTEN to the fans that gave them this opportunity in the first place. I will say that I am excited at the idea of exploration. That is a bonus.

still you can't just attach an engine to some random part of a ship and hope that it won't rip out a piece of your hull once you accelerate. i like michael38921's idea - i mean without the i-just-lost-all-my-money-part. would make people's ships who can develop intelligent designs better than of those who just spend 18h a day playing..

and if you actually meant "brake": apply impulse to your ship. in the opposite direction as you movement.

customize it well, as you ARE the starship. You won't have access to the interior of the ship (except a very poorly made bridge which they claim will be more like an 'apartment' than a bridge, as it will be totally nonfunctional) and you will not have player crews. In space, you ARE the ship. Think asteroids meets armada. This game is a terrible waste of a great opportunity.

The only system I could see that would handle a mmo on this scale, is the ps3. 360 would explode into a million pieces. Yet even still, it wouldn't be at it's best. So yes let's hope it remains pc exclusive.

@Vilemk0 Notice that most major release games are now advertised for 360, like the Modern warfare 2 ads, they all say best played on X-BOX 360, and that game is the biggest thing for sales in all entertainment, also Halo 2 and 3 were each the biggest entertainment releases ever when released both exclusives, and X-BOX live is a larger more powerful network, I would love it to be released as a console option too, because not everybody can afford a monster PC to run massive games.

If you want MMO's with vast content and superb graphics, PC is the way to go. A console will NEVER trump a PC on graphics or ability to draw content at speeds that would make the 360 seem like an NES (I am refering to HDD R/W capability here). Granted PC's are expensive and outdate the day you dream of them but they will be the god of all consoles.
