@PrezDaNTisGOD this is a weta. They're pretty common in New Zealand. There are several varieties and im not sure what this one is but its a female - due to the spike on the tail - which is used to lay eggs. Hit up google maps and you'll see.

My guess is it is a brown morphotype of a 5th or 6th instar (basically meaning it's close to full grown but not winged yet) wart biter bush cricket, (Decticus verrucivorus) or related species within the decticus family like Decticus albifrons. They live in the region he specified and feed on other insects as well as vegetation.The large ovipositor (stinger-like egg laying structure out the rear) signifies its a female.
