  • AWESOME TUNE!!

  • Singer sounds like a male Timi Yuro to me great heart jerking vocals KTF

  • @Excorcet This song is amazing as is Timi Yuro's song As Long As There Is You, I can't sit still when they are playing...brilliant ktf :-)x

  • I saw The Tempests many time in Charlotte, NC (USA) in the 60's and their music will last forever. We still love them here in Myrtle Beach, SC and hope our friends in the UK love them as well. Hazel Martin was the lead singer and he dies a few years ago. RIP Hazel. Keep singing these great songs in heaven.

  • just found this song on utube while messing about... blew me away. thanks for a great post. is it on any CD compilations ? Brilliant

  • Growing up in South Central Pa, I'm no stranger to this kind of music, S.C. PA was a hot bed for R&B in the 60's, with the likes of The Magnificent Men, The Intentions and the Emperors to name a few. This track is absolutely mesmerizing.

  • I've collected soul music since the early 60's but never came across this fantastic song before. Brilliant

  • I'm glad you found it on here.

    Thanks for visiting.

  • @SuperSoulbrother1 this tune blows me away, ive never heard this before and ive been a soulie for over 40 yrs, thankyou for this post and making the point your never to old to learn.ktf.

  • Superb tune i cant get enough of this tune its my ring tone recorded of youtube . ktf

  • Fabbeeeeedoooo x

  • what an absolute classic!

  • The "Would You Believe" LP would be worth the price for this track alone, but the beautiful thing is it's full of class tracks. The voice on the lead singer is second-to-none!

  • @raygun500 totally agree!

  • "what a brilliant tune"!!!

  • Magnifica.

  • Do you known if there is 45 of this song? Thanks.

  • Great song, I saw this band many times in the 60's in Charlotte at the Cellar, B&G and other clubs..Enjoyed the sign in the video advertising the bands at the old Park Center in Charlotte. $2.00 to $2.50 to see three bands..Those days are long gone..Great memories, thanks for posting..

  • Always been my fave.

  • This is such a haunting track and a perfect all-nighter dancer :-)

  • I bought this Smash album when it first came out. I still have it. At the time, here in Alabama, this band was considered OK, but nothing special.

  • As a blue blooded Chelsea supporting, born & bred Londoner, I've always felt proud and grateful to have grown up with, and into such a rich genre of black music from Ska, sound systems, Soho sweat boxes and warehouse raves, but I have always been in awe of Northern Soul and would have loved to have been a part of it.

It's like the rich history of football that the NW of England produces. . . It's something completely unique. . .it's in the blood. . .. . and it's in the SOUL

  • Thanks for visiting the original video.

  • @kevintheshedend1976 Look on soulsource Kev its till going strong and there new blood coming in freindly trouble free atmosphere not like the shed if you prefer to stay down south 100 club does once a month all nighters younger crowd there. jus tcoem dow nget danicng.

  • @kevintheshedend1976 Just come down mate find a venue its still going really strong. Theres loads dow nSout hsuch as the 100 club once a month in Oxford st.

  • @kevintheshedend1976 right on brother, i'm a Glasgow Rangers supporter and have gracing the North of England with my presence since the late 70's attending soul allnighters, still going to this day,P.S any tickets for any future Chelsea games let me Know as i would love to bring my son down for game

  • And she melts again......

  • You know, I feel this is the closest a song comes to perfection in this northern soul genre. Hope this doesn't sound too over-the-top.

  • Real Music !!

  • When I at a time in my life was playing secular music,my band was asked to fill in for the Tempest who were playing at the Sugar Shach in Boston in 1968. We only lasted 1 night. My regular musicians didn't show up because of day gigs. The Sugar Shack was like a little Appollo. If you got to play there it meant you had made it!

  • Cracking tune, great vocals and top vid!

  • I assume that's Guy Hennigan doing the intro. He always said things like 'wait for this!' before stuff played.

  • Certainly is - not sure if he was still cueing up the vinyl or trying to remember the full length of of his cover-ups before the record finished.

    Thanks for your comment.

  • is this on a 7 or is it album only loving the vocals on this

  • top drawer classic thanks for posting.

dunno why it popped in my head, but remember the guy who owned top of the world and came on the stage at the start of the totw stafford nighters n gave us all a bollockin and threatend us with physical violence if we were caught being naughty boys n girls with illegal substances. he, he, would we...surely not

  • EXCELLENT SO SOULFUL !!!

  • You certainlty like the Stafford sounds!

    Thanks again.

  • I'm back to this...

Look at the amount of views here!

Just pure northern soul, class, that's why..

  • OH YES, one of my all time favs, LOVE IT, LOVE IT,

  • Fantastic tune, another slip up from the record company. Hazell Martin on lead, first heard this played by Roger Banks..at Stalybridge, with stuff like Charles Johnson, Alicia Myers, Metros, John Bowie(Wigan clawback), Ringleaders, etc. etc. ..... may have been pre '83(?)

  • I do remember Roger telling me he had played this from the album before Guy started spinning this on an acetate.

    Thanks for commenting.

  • One or two other nice tunes on the album too Rob, as I'm sure you know, but this is the "standout" track by miles for an uptempo dance tune... so why release "What Ya' Gonna Do" on a single and not this?? "What Ya'..." a bit more obvious perhaps? PS everybody if yer buying "What Ya'...", buy the issue 'cos I used to play the flip, shhhhhhhhh! quiet.... as the Temptations,

  • any chance of "what you gonna do" by the tempests

  • I had a few emails from Nelson Lemmond and Ron Smith saying how they couldn't believe their album was so popular still.

I've got the song you're after if you want me to email it.

  • Amazing album.

    Thanks for your comments.

  • Yes, and not a bad track on it which is a tremendous achievement as far as Albums are concerned!

  • WOW!!! Killer tune! tks for posting that, cheers

  • That's Guy Hennigan playing Someday at Stafford Top of the World Allnighter, a Keb Darge play I belive via Martin Maylor from Crew.
