I still have mine 950 that I got for Xmas back in the 80's, sounds great, tape player doesn't work though, broken teeth on a gear, I can see it. Very clear sound.
BTW great video seeing you cover all the details on the tape machines really brings back memories. Despite their disadvantages by today's standards (lower quality and having to wait for it to FF/REW to the right spot) tapes have a charm that will never be matched.
whoa!!! that thing is sooo early '90s! Almost everyone had one of those when I was a little kid.
and i have a similar walkman, but mine's a much cheaper Sony model, with no radio, but it's water resistant, and I got it brand new fo my birthday back in the '90s, and it STILL works after 15 years of regular use. EVEN THE ORIGINAL SONY RECHARGABLE BATTERIES STILL HOLD A CHARGE! even after 15 years!!
Yup, Sony is the way to go. Even though it's an asian company, the electronics are still good.
Well since they don't make cassette walkmans anymore, there's no point in forking out the cash for a new Sony walkman. Sony made the best cassette walkmans, and no other company could manufacture a walkman that even came close.
In Sony's, the batteries last longer, and the tape doesn't slow down when the battery starts to go, the speed is accurate, and the sound quality is comparable to a hi-fi unit.
with CD walkmans, they all sound the same, and don't last worth a crap.
I have a sony CD walkman that has stood up to a lot of "crash landings" and the skip protection is GREAT!
If you like tapes, sony still makes tape recorder walkmen-go to the sony style website under MP3 and portable electronics-voice recorders and microphones. In addition to those micro-tape recorders, they also have ones that take normal sized tape.
