too true about knowing ppl. it's all about connections. even to get your hit record heard u probably need connections to get it spread out.

One for sure way is to set up your own night. Find a club that is open on a slow night and set up a night that features you and other djs that with your style of music, and then do some promotion and boom your cooking!
