"And if the rain stops and everythings' dry, she would cry just so I can drink the tears from her eyes" -lupe just one of many sick lines in this masterpiece.
(Am I over-analyzing?) 1. I love the piece & I love the whore I love the C's & I love the chore No love for no bitch, baby that's loyal But she didn't see, therefore I spoil. 2. I love the peace and I love the wharf I love the season, I love the shore No love for no beach bathing that's long But she doesn't sea, Therefore I spa. 3. Isle of the appease and isle of the war Isle of disease anhial of the shore No love for an oil beach, pay me that's law What she doesn't seize their four high-spar.
all lupe's songs have a deeper meaning, i think for this one i think it means in order to do alot of good in order to bad, but you cannot get carried away with your own personal interests, lupe do it
Lupe's beats help ease MY mind into the context of the song. I get a clearer meaning from the beats as well. the beats set the plot. Lupe is the best. PERIOD(^_^)
@isports22 which beats arent great.. i could compare lupes beat choice to any album out now and demonstrate how they are easily superior. i listen to the cool without stopping. due to his choices.
@isports22 "Lupe's beats aren't the best" thats the point. Lupe doesn't need amazing beats like half of the other hip hop artists to make a song. He makes the song with his lyrical ingenuity
"Lord please have sympathy, and and forgive my cool young history. Michael Young History is the name of the lead character for those that don't know :) I don't remember the last time a rapper tryed to use a successful play on words beyond "foshizzle". It's not all verbal word play though, that's just the cherry on the icecream. The real cream is the album. He's trying to tell hiphop stories and connect them in an overall framework. It's excellent stuff.
You said it man. A deeper more complex version of tupac at a younger age. He's a superstar and I hope he wins some much deserved Grammys (The Cool album is nominated for 4). That would be the type of thing that would be a signal that he has arrived. I really hope that he wins all 4 of them, or at least Hiphop album of the year because there isn't a single album that is as deep and dynamic as this one. My new Illmatic.
the most clever part of this song is his play on words with his character Michael Young History...if you haven't followed the the cool, or checked the background on the characters he speaks of throughtout his album - the cool, the streets, michael young history - then maybe it doesn't mean much to you...but in the hook he says "and forgive my cool young history (michael-mycool)...this whole song is dope, but that just jumped out at me the other day in the car
And if the rain stops and everythings dry, she would cry just so I could drink the tears from her eyes. OH MY GOD! That has to be real love. imagine someone doing that. Pure Genieus !
yes LupEND but sadly it will be his last so he says, but he said he'd still be featured on stuff and do alot of work with CRS, which may not happen. He probably will still drop mixtapes/freestyles o-o
I think he'll pull a Jay-Z and just come back when hip hops ready. It seems hip hops been dropping more lyrical stuff imo.
best artist ever* ..i mean hnoestly if Lupe made club tracks mixed with these kinda tracks ppl would compare him to tupac, but i think lupe is a deeper writer than Pac
lupe is deep but he doesn't have the balls to rap about what pac was rapping about...he's not willing to die for his art..there for he's not deeper then pac because he doesn't rap about him self or things that can get him in trouble....therefore think before you speak child.
and wat exactly did tupac rap about that caused his death? he was bouta leave death row so suge knight had him killed...i mean tupac is a great rapper i have him as best rapper ever but Lupe deff more deeper
word to god, if lupe wanted to take a spot like that of wayne or jigga, it would be like takin candy from a sperm. I'm glad he stay true to him though. Aint nobody puttin em together like Lupe in todays time. very underated
i love lupe. he is such a beast, but i dont really like it sometimes when i dont know what he is talking about. like i know the three characters (the streets, the game, and the cool) but could someone please expain what the main idea of the story or who is talking to who in this song?
i take songs in by what they mean to me and lupe has a few lines that speak to me personally... i love the lord but sometimes it like that i love me more....every vein every vessel every bullet large, wit every flower i ever took apart (love).....if the rain stops and everythings dry she'd cry jus so i can drink the tear from her eye she teach me how to fly even cushion my fall if my engines ever stall and i plummet from the sky (sayin "she" has his back i think she is the streets
Lupe is undoubtfully one the best if not the best hip-hop has to offer in this messed up music industry. Everyone else talks about irrelevant crap like the cars, bling, girls and weed. Dont get me wrong, there are people who produce real hip-hop music but then most of them just tend to loose themselves to the industry. I hope Lupe doesn't turn out to be one of them because I love his music and I'm proud to say I'm listening to real Hip-hop. Its not that fake garbage some artists call Hip-hop.
thanks man cuz i hear it in like 2 other of his songs and i couldnt figure it out. but yeah it does make since that hes falling in love with "the game" cuz it the whole part from where he says "she sayed that she would give me greatnes" to the part where he says "she could be my queen" makes sense cuz it sounds like the game promised michael young fame and fortune, but it does make alot more since if it was the streets cuz it sounds more like a love siong.
no,its about michael young (who later becomes the cool after he dies), its about how mic falls in love with The Streets who is another one of Lupe's characters he talks about in the album, The streets has eyes that glow with the doller symbol witch he refers to wen he says "her eyes glow green with the logo of our dreams" also She has the names of all the people whos lives that shes taken tatood on her chest which is wat hes talkin bout wen he says"she would commision my image on her bosom"
how can it be about him being in love with the game cuz theres the lyric where it says "do i lover, i say i dunnno, streets got my heart, the game got my soul" it hink this story is about "the cool". but the part u said makes alot of sense. and i think "put u on game" is about the game talking to the cools 8 year old daughter. and jw, what does fnf mean?
its not about witch rapper is better ore cooler its about the lyrics what it can bring 4 the word what it can do 4 youre feelings what it helps 4 what humens think about
This is one of the greatest songs ever made in my book, Lupe's imagery just paints a picture. You don't even need a video to "see" what he's talking about.

crazy ass song song as far as i know this is the rap version of Thriller to me(album and song) except the fact it will never sell as much as thriller but thats imo but i get scared while playing this song sumtimes which makes me feel that comparison.lupes bringing scary back like mike then my F.R.O.A.T.
Guys, who the hell says that Imm Tech isnt good? That guy is an amazing rapper, really sweet flow etc. Though, this song breaks like all his songs, I just love the dark voice that fills up the sentence ''But not well enough to keep 'em from us''. Really give me goosebumps. Peace foe yall
I dont think underground artists play at the VMAs or get nominated twice at the BET awards (and was nominated 3 times in the europe video awards.) But thats just me...
does it really matter ??????? im happy thst they r true artist breaking into mainstream ......... lets open the ears of the world with this not fight over stupid shit......spread the word!!!!!!!!
Jay didn't fall off, 3K is good, Eminem has good rhymes and lyrics but that crazy white boy mentality takes some of his songs to be a little too strong. Um what else...The Game is useless, idiotic, annoying and had good lyrics for like...20 minutes, got a $300 check then started being garbage.
I mean im kinda a fan of Jay... his flow is aiight i guess.. but he's more style than lyricism... HArd knock life volume 2 was my first album so im not even hatin on Jay hes a legend... but ive started to drift away from his style of rap.. I prefer more of the style thats TI Kanye Lupe and Talib and others in their Category, but Jay is good at his own thing so yeah.
Ya i like Tupac and eazy E eminem too... but i wasnt a big fan of biggie i know im a get bashed for that but idk i jus wasnt into him... but as for now im more into newer artists but ill always revert back to those guys
I cant say im a big fan of 808's but i understand that hes goin thru a tough time with his momma. Like erry single song if u pay attention to the lyrics has references to his mom. Especially coldest winter. But Kanye is releasing a fifth album next year i think its called good ass job... that should be on point and back to his old style. whats your top 5?
Lupe is lyrically amazing I bought his album as soon as it came out Listenin to his music makes you think so much its metaphorical love it. Now i usually dont like haters but im throw some hate out here how can someone say Lil Wayne is better then Lupe it pisses me off. Also im kinda sad Lupe only comin out with one more album but dats cuz hes tryin to keep it real and not go commercial i respect that.
i have to disagree a lil here. i mean, all of these guys are cool, but i gotta switch it up, and chop and screw this list. i ain't bashin ya shit though, cuz these guys aren't bad. here's my twist.
1. Jay Z (cuz he's just Hova)
2. Nas (Untitled was fuckin amazing).
3. Lupe Fiasco (I'd put em here, but he plays around way too much. Lupe is the best thing we have goin and it's sad he's retiring cuz he's classic.
4. Eminem (lyrically amazing)
5. Luda (second most underrated rapper after lupe.
Are you kiddin me.. you must not have heard paper trail... Dead and Gone, no matter what, slide show, so many more... Yeah some of his songs are commercial.. but thats only like whatever you like... if you listen to his lyrics on live your life.. their real... ihs old stuff was wac listen to his newer stuff much better
Wow this is probably some of the best lyrics i've ever heard. Rap that makes you think and nothing about gettin money and pussy (lil wayne). Good Shit Lupe.
I think he's talking about felix unger from the show the Odd Couple. He was the clean neat freak, hence why lupe say "because he is the cleanest amongst young up and comers..". He's the freshest out of all the new young hustlers. And I think is "ire" not "ivory". Rastas use the word "ire" to mean good. That's why he says everything like he does.
its her AND i can so that sounds nothing like hurricane and if he was trying to play with the words her I can he'd do it lol...its pretty witty that you found that shit but i dont't think it was his intentions
Hey youtube my names Ho♫ywood i am a serious hip hop artist i focus on lyricism, originality, style, and staying real at the same time if you can come listen to my new mixtape everyone else loves it so you might too

This song is a masterpiece. When my exams are over, I'm going to sit down and analyze the lyrics because they are intriguing.

Alright
I goes something like this peeps;
Nas:
Hero just blew everyone out of the water
Lupe Fiasco: Dumb it down,Coolest superstar and the fighters where sick
Jay: he fell off money/beyonce changed him.
EMINEM
he is the greatest, he just hasnt been here lately which sucks cuz the hip hop need him
No mention of wayne or pain butt honorable mentions : the game isss SO SICK and andrea 3000, who i havent heard much of,
lupethekillerr 3 years ago
Jay didn't fall off, 3K is good, Eminem has good rhymes and lyrics but that crazy white boy mentality takes some of his songs to be a little too strong. Um what else...The Game is useless, idiotic, annoying and had good lyrics for like...20 minutes, got a $300 check then started being garbage.

eminem isn't the best i disagree, so....that's not how it goes peeps

I mean im kinda a fan of Jay... his flow is aiight i guess.. but he's more style than lyricism... HArd knock life volume 2 was my first album so im not even hatin on Jay hes a legend... but ive started to drift away from his style of rap.. I prefer more of the style thats TI Kanye Lupe and Talib and others in their Category, but Jay is good at his own thing so yeah.
HipHopfene 3 years ago 4
best rappers RIGHT now, in terms of talent not popularity...
Kweli (still as good now as he was back with Blackstar)
Jay-Z (always on point, but Blueprint 3 better be good cuz this guy is changing away from the real Hov)
Lupe (crazy lyricism/depth)
GZA (protools proved he's still got it)
Nas (better than Jay, hasnt been affected in the least by pop culture. still making raw songs.)
and watch out for Eminem in the next few months. King Mathers looks like its going to be hot.

only people who dont know good rap like immortal technique... thats the weakest shit

HipHopfene 3 years ago
Lupe is lyrically amazing I bought his album as soon as it came out Listenin to his music makes you think so much its metaphorical love it. Now i usually dont like haters but im throw some hate out here how can someone say Lil Wayne is better then Lupe it pisses me off. Also im kinda sad Lupe only comin out with one more album but dats cuz hes tryin to keep it real and not go commercial i respect that.
Top 5 Rappers
1.Lupe Fiasco
2.Kanye West
3.T.I. (real as hell)
4.The Game
5.Talib Kweli

i have to disagree a lil here. i mean, all of these guys are cool, but i gotta switch it up, and chop and screw this list. i ain't bashin ya shit though, cuz these guys aren't bad. here's my twist.

3.T.I. (NOT real at all)

'Cause you gonna need a Sub till he does reply
And not one of Jared's"

And not one of Jared's
You think it's all arid
And e'eryting's ivory
Another supply
That means another July
Inside my endless summer
That was just the eye(eye of a hurricane) of the Unger
Felix(felix was a 5.0 hurricane
Niiell 3 years ago 7
I think he's talking about felix unger from the show the Odd Couple. He was the clean neat freak, hence why lupe say "because he is the cleanest amongst young up and comers..". He's the freshest out of all the new young hustlers. And I think is "ire" not "ivory". Rastas use the word "ire" to mean good. That's why he says everything like he does.
msingleton82 3 years ago
And so began our reign/rain
The Trinity, her and I came
No weather man could ever stand
What "her I can"(Hurricane)
Hellahard
Umbrella whatever
Put plywood or propeller panes
And pray to God that the flood subside
'Cause you gonna need a Sub till he does reply
Niiell 3 years ago 4
its her AND i can so that sounds nothing like hurricane and if he was trying to play with the words her I can he'd do it lol...its pretty witty that you found that shit but i dont't think it was his intentions
Killswitch305 3 years ago
I'm quite sure he meant that. The rest of the verse makes it obvious...
