@bologma When a singer or band does a cover of a song by another artist, it's a compliment to the original. This was nothing except a tribute to Elliman, and to Andrew Weber. I seriously doubt she was trying to compete with Elliman specially 40 years after the song came out on Broadway. I think the movie was '73. Guns-n-Roses did a whole album of covers. So did Metallica. KISS put out an album where they didn't sing one song. It was singers who wanted to record their music. It's a tribute.

I grew up with the classic album of the early 70s, with Ian, Yvonne and original crew-two album set with full libretto. The concept was, at first, just an album, with JC superstar as a single. it's popularity is enduring as nearly 50 years later we still listen to it. As to a contest over who sings it 'better' - all who professionally sing this tune give it their personal interpretation neither right or wrong. For me, Yvonne's is the one i will always remember.

Why are so many using this video as a forum to preach? This is a song about someone falling romantically in love with Jesus. It is one of the most tender songs I have ever heard. And Sarah is one of the greatest souls I have ever encountered. Now that is an appropiate comment. That preaching is out of place here.

I think this is very close to what Mary Magdeline would have looked like. Kind of "garish" clothing with lots of jewelry, long hair, etc. And probably a lot of what would be have been going through her mind at the time as well!! Brillant song by Webber and the voice of Sarah Brightman- tops.
Sarah Brightman has an incredibly beautiful voice, and as much as I love her, I don't think she suits the song well. This song needs to have intense emotion behind it, and she just doesn't bring it; not to this version, at least.

Although I don't believe that Jesus had any kind of affair with Mary Magdalena, or any other woman, it is natural that a woman could feel a great passion for a so charishtmatic person, as Jesus certainly was in person, as He is still, in Spirit. I know cases of christian young females who fell in love for some churchmen (fathers and ministers), and boys for lady teachers.

What, in the world, makes you think there's a loving, caring, almighty being somewhere, looking at people, deciding whether they deserve to live in heaven or hell after death? Or, even, a god that doesn't care? All you can really do is debunk claims against it; but what backs it up? ---

For all who say this song is wrong for her ..consult with her ex-husband.....andrew loyd webber...i think youll find he wrote this song for her (in the role of mary).
I have to agree tho i prefer Yvonne's voice and style for this song.

@1013shelton As the song was written in the 1970, and Webber married Brightman in 1984, I very much doubt he wrote it FOR her. Brightman was born in 1960, so was 10 years old when he wrote it !

sigh I'm just going to ignore this religious argument going on below me because it's annoying. Lets face it, no one can prove there is or isn't a god upstairs until we're pushing daisies so lets focus on what's importaint: This song is beautiful, she's beautiful and we can all relate to a woman falling in love with a man who you're convinced is unusual and amazing. I grew up with the classic album of the early 70s, with Ian, Yvonne and original crew-two album set with full libretto. The concept was, at first, just an album, with JC superstar as a single. it's popularity is enduring as nearly 50 years later we still listen to it. As to a contest over who sings it 'better' - all who professionally sing this tune give it their personal interpretation neither right or wrong. For me, Yvonne's is the one i will always remember.

Why are so many using this video as a forum to preach? This is a song about someone falling romantically in love with Jesus. It is one of the most tender songs I have ever heard. And Sarah is one of the greatest souls I have ever encountered. Now that is an appropiate comment. That preaching is out of place here.

I think this is very close to what Mary Magdeline would have looked like. Kind of "garish" clothing with lots of jewelry, long hair, etc. And probably a lot of what would be have been going through her mind at the time as well!! Brillant song by Webber and the voice of Sarah Brightman- tops.

Sarah Brightman has an incredibly beautiful voice, and as much as I love her, I don't think she suits the song well. This song needs to have intense emotion behind it, and she just doesn't bring it; not to this version, at least.

Personally, I pray each day that the Flying Spaghetti Monster will bless me with fettucini arrabiata with veggie meatballs. Hasn't happened yet, unless I pay for it or make it myself. @aatteeii She's the best singer EVER, and this song, made for the play JC Superstar is very apropriate for the story. Although I don't believe that Jesus had any kind of affair with Mary Magdalena, or any other woman, it is natural that a woman could feel a great passion for a so charishtmatic person, as Jesus certainly was in person, as He is still, in Spirit. I know cases of christian young females who fell in love for some churchmen (fathers and ministers), and boys for lady teachers.

@aatteeii Thats Pascals wager .Please watch a few of the many videos on the subject . Pascal was a mathmatician but he failed horribly at making this wager acurate . Your faith would be 1 out of 10 thousand to be corect not (50/50) . The chances of being in the right Christian denomination are 1 in 3000+ minimum . The chances that the right gospel texsts where chosen is slim . The chance that Jesus's words are actualy his are less than 20% say biblical scholars .

I do believe in god. But I don't like him, and I'm getting along without him anyways. Everybody ask themselves at some point, if god exists. But do they ask what difference it makes? No. Even if there is a god - we're living in our world, and it doesn't make any difference for us if he's there or not - because things are what they are. I think it's hard to learn independence from god, but he's meaningless.

if you believe in God and God does not exist you have lost all of that time and energy you spent during your short time on earth that you could have been helping other people instead of selfishly trying to secure your place with a non-existent entity, but if God does exists and you did not believe you have lost nothing because if it is unwilling to forgive your mortal transgressions then why would you want to spend eternity with that.
