What a great tip! I like to say "KISS!". Keep It Simple Stupid! I wish I know that simple tip about 3 months ago when I was making a large gate!! Thanks Kevin, from Los Angeles!!!!

kevin, this is the greatest thing i have ever watched on youtube... so simple its silly... i wish i could tell you haw many hours i have spent finding center on thing. i cant wait to go out to the shop and try this method out! thank you so much for making these videos!
what also works is if you want to divide up equal pieces for instance if you want to divide up a board in to 3 pieces. Using that technique you can start at 0 and pick a number that is divisible by 3 and mark your board.
Great to see a fellow builder at work. Officially, (or NON-officially) I'm considered a master builder. It's all in the interpretation, right? I forget and take for granted the geometry that's involved in construction having done it sooo long" or was that feet'? Not many folks use a framing square these days - but it's still a useful tool. I like to keep my "construction master" on hand or near my tool box - helps with fractions and such. Again very informative vid! Keep up the great work! Mike
awesome tip!! I remember my shop teacher telling us that. And one of the "not so gifted kids" telling him it wasn't right. Then he had us find things in the shop to measure. Like an old sign, a piece of angle iron and other things. He had the kid measure it his way (I guess normal) then he did it the way you said and he proved it was the fastest easiest way.
Awesome, and the dialog is a riot! Is that your wife?

Kevin, good tip. Useful for woodworkers also. I must say, this video was uncommonly quiet. No machinery running! Thanks to you and "the voice".
