Personally I always put the sunflowers in the very back to keep them safe. That way I have a reliable source of sun even if I screw up somehow.

@shaardan7 the only reason I put the shooters in the back is because they shoot full screen, but they can't shoot behind them so if a zombie were to get past them and your last line of defense is the sunflowers you are screwed....or use a cherry bomb haha

The answer is in his actions following the peashooter replacement of the peashooter. He thought he exchanged it for the repeater... a few moments later he removes the peashooter directly under it and nearly replaces it with a regular peashooter as well... but realizes his mistake midway and grabs the correct one.

How to get lots of sun:

Step 1. Plant a sunflower at the back middle, second last up and second last up.

Step 2. Plant 2 peashooters on the top and bottom square.

Step 3. Plant 2 sunflowers in the squares in front of the peashooters.

Step 4. Plant 3 peashooteres in the squares in front of the 3 sunflowers.

Step 5. Repeat until the end of the level.

I use a similar strategy with my sunflowers being row 3 & 4 from the front because sunflowers are 150 points cheaper than a shooter. They are excellent blocks and keep my 200 point shooters safe if anything does to get through, which rarely happens. With 2 rows of sunflowers producing, one 50 point sunflower is no big deal to replant. My wall usually goes shooter-2X shooter-sunflower-sunflower-fr­eeze shooter-wall nut. If there are more zombies (and time) I replant shooters as 2X shooter.

I personaly don't think it's a bad stratergy, so much as a more offencive one. What with the sunflowers being the first to get eaten as soon as the wallnuts go down, it's harder to recover after a bad set of zombies, but you're going to get more shots in before the zombies eat the peashoters.
