The greatest Muppet movie of ALL TIME!!! (and yes i know they are not muppets... but same idea :D.) It was the only movie i saw on the Big Screen that year - but i'm REALLY glad that was the one. It ALMOST makes up for the lack of anime-quality animated films in North America....unfortunately, its all by itself: there is nothing else in the same genre that stands out even a bit.

I liked the creators' idea that the skeksis should speak a separate language from the gelfling; but the world, as an audience, wasnt ready for it when the movie came out since the theme is tricky enough to follow as it is (with no humans, i mean - some people have trouble grasping these kinds of films). Still marvelous. Im glad they at least had these origional dialogs on the dvd :)

@TheAtroxious respect to you who know of their proper names. in 1983 i would check out the WORLD OF THE DARK CRYSTAL from the library ALL the time. and my friends would not believe me that they all had proper names and they were cognates of their UrSkek names. RIGHT ON!

In the original dub, the only times you hear the skeksis speak "English" is when they speak in Gelfling, which is why the Chamberlain wasn't trying to sound dimwitted when he first encounters Jen and Kira at the ruins, but was attempting rather brokenly to communicate in their language.
