@myone2008 he's a wrestler and it's called a keylock in their world. He didn't beat a Gracie with Jiujitsu.. And if u explore and study where jiujitsu came from you'll learn that it's a combination of western old catch wrestling and Eastern wrestling (which originated from the monks 1000 of years ago that went to Japan and the samurais took it and modified it). These arts improve and were modified through individuals calling them different names/styles like Helio, with weaker body that he worke

Lol... I believe it's Royler's nephew Relek time and again has referred to Saku as a Bjj fighter. Saku is a Catch Wrestler. Coached by Billy Robinson. Pick up a copy of Ruff And Tumble and you'll understand the history of Catch.
@jp3eku Sakuraba is the man who broke their legend., being the first to beat a Gracie in 48 years and asfar as subs in MMA go only two men have subbed a Gracie. Saku here subbing Royler and Renzo and Yoshida choking out Royce
talk about some serious leg kicks. big up to gracie as well for takin that shit damn u hear the snaps omg great fight. gracie didnt tap tho thats sick. sakuraba was truly a great wrestler/jjj fighter of his time.
dont know why someone insulted you cause you thought of a VERY interesting type of fight. Just think about it, 10 guys fighting at once would be dramatic. BUT how would the rules be?
@hidan407 i dunno but the ref would have a very hard time breaking the fights cuz from what i have seen already whenever some gets knocked out or submissioned they just keep beating them up.its probably why they never done that.i dont even think they did it when wrestling was real.
LMAO, i saw that. royce constantly tried to get saku on the ground. he even tried the "bring it" gesture while he was on the ground. he was going to lose his arm for months if the ref didnt stop it
Would have lost to Rickson Gracie and Royce Gracie. This fight was with Royler Gracie. Lost as many lose. Now note one thing, you've heard of a family of champions? i guess you don't need a 'family of champions' if you can kick the shit out of any champion family that might cross your path. not to mention royce was never anything but a great pitchman for bjj, he beat up on talent less saps. Royler and Ryan were mediocre and then dead in the latter's case. Rickson talked a lot of shit and did nothing but beat Takada and then flee all offers to fight Sakuraba. I don't know where this family of champions is, but I hope you don't mean the Gracies.
As a judoka I feel ashamed that the Gracies had learned Kodokan judo. They don´t show any balance and no valid throws. They don´t lose and don´t win with the honor of judo. They do not respect the teachings of Kano Jigoro, he tought humbleness. When a Gracie looses he often looks for cheap excuses. Kimura and Mas Oyama were real fighters, Helio Gracie should have learnt judo and karate from these real masters instead of creating a useless sport.
Royler was fine. That was a terrible stoppage. He could sit in that position all day. Sakuraba would have had to pull the arm out to even have a chance of finishing that. Sakuraba is still the fucking man though.
bad stoppage, but cowardly rules insisted on by the gracie clan here. Royler got his ass handed to him for 20 minutes and it would have been a draw with him spending the final 2 minutes making no effort to mount an intelligent defense without the stoppage. it set up the best mma fight in history between royce and saku, i'm glad it was called when it was all things considered,
Rapaiz, nunca vi ninguem apanhar assim, foi tratorizado e humilhado, já imaginou se o Wanderlei pega esse mané ? Nem parece que é um Gracie, isso que dá ir pro MMA com apenas um estilo de luta....
Royler Gracie was THE LOSER GRACIE, first to lose in professional MMA, and more importantly the FIRST TO EVER SUBMIT (to Eddie Bravo). He is the one who destroyed the Gracie Mystique. The worst of all the sons ability wise.
@vecuccio First to ever submit? All that proves is he got more brains and/or less steroids than the other disgracies. I wouldn't call that a bad thing.
Even if his attitude is as shit as the rest. Should've given him a yellow card for arguing the referee in such a manner if you ask me. It wasn't something that could be argued, so don't disrespect the man in charge who just saved your arm by argueing it anyway. If he's that argumentative, might as well deduct some of his pay for it.
@numerrita yes he is 30lbs heavier than Royler. Good thing he beat Royce, Renzo and Ryan who were all his size or larger. Aswell as defeating folks like Conan Silvera (Prize Gracie student) who was 50lbs heavier.
@Farren2007 Bye Bye BJJ...This match clearly demonstrates the fact that if a BJJ master is unable to force his opponent to ground, he may get his ass kicked , I think thats the main reason why Royce Gracie trained Karate so intensively.
The ref did the right thing in stopping it otherwise that idiot would've had his arm broken in 3 different places. He got owned comprehensively...watch the vid again...accept it. Sakubara is respectful as always...but the other guy..such a pathetic loser. Serves him right, Kenji Sudo also knocked the shit outta him as well, if I'm not mistaken...
@VirtuousRebel Actually, Royler was probably fine. The shoulder is much more flexible when close to the body like it was, plus he was using the mat and their bodies to impede it from bending back further. The kimura is much more effective when the arm is further out, effectively "taking the slack" out of the arm.
@VirtuousRebel i agree this guy even keeps going when is not necessary! Royce gracie is a shame for the good name of BJJ. And for sure for the original Japanese JuJutsu!
I am watching this fight for the first time and I am very impressed. Sakuraba is extremely talented. He has stand up, ground game, kicks and his patience is superb. In the beginning of this fight while Royler is on his back he gets side kicked in his face, he then stand up to box and gets knocked down. Very impressive! I wonder if this would be considered modern JKD. Either way this proves you'd better be schooled in more than one system.
Gracie so damn dominated its not even funny here... Only thing he cares about the whole fight is to try and get Sakuraba to come down and grapple with him (since he has NOTHING on sakuraba standing up). Then when they finally go down he gets owned.
i think the gracie family are great but royler got caught.......plain and simple..he didn't tap out but he was in no way gonna get out of that. actually surprised he didn't have a move to counter sakuraba when he grabbed his arm........
@TheSkullCrossbone The referee stopped the fight to keep him from being severely injured. not to mention he was screaming in pain with each torque. Royler was angry because the fight would have been ruled an automatic draw (a rule he had implemented into the match) if it went the distance even though Saku dominated the entire match.
@TheSkullCrossbone I know it looked like Royler or whatshisname may not have tapped, but it only takes another inch further back and something would ave popped out of his socket. Some fighters think they can endure joint manipulation as long as possible until something gives then the crying in pain begins. Ref's are there to prevent the crying.
I always thought the Gracies should have focused on takedowns more; it's really an essential part of the grappling game that GJJ de-emphasizes too much
"Many people make excuses when they lose, I have only one: He was better than me tonight. I wish him all the best. And the only gift that I can give to him is to say He's the Japanese version of the Gracie family"
There's not much to say, the Gracies were good, but Sakuraba was better. Simple as that. And for those Brazilian assholes who defend the Gracies and talk shit about Sakuraba simply because of nationalities, see what Renzo Gracie thinks of Sakuraba, and just then you think about writing something on the matter.
@OpioidBoy you couldnt beat a brazilian girl to save your life dude...as for fighting talent sakuraba was a good fighter and nationality does not matter at all
não entendo como esses caras da familia gracie ainda perderam pro sakuraba... lutadorzinho que só sabia ficar chutando na perna qd os caras estavam no chão... por isso que o ARONA arrochou logo essa cara dele de joelhada... RI MUITO!!!
@thefiveeagles I would call them flaws as much as weak areas. GJJ has a specific fight strategy, Saku knows it, and strategizes against it. You would have be an amazing boxer, a amazing wrestler or be a little more modern with your Jiu Jitsu to stand a chance. Not that there is anything wrong with GJJ, its highly effective, it's just not gonna cut it against professional fighters
Not really. Gracie Jiu Jitsu as a style on its own has no "flaws" but instead has weak areas(punches and kicks etc etc). Sakuraba just showed that being a mixed martial artist is more effective than having one style. We all know that already and I know that the Gracies know that too.
@filthynumber1 there was a big weight diff but not as big as that. Saku walked around at 183. Royler at 154. He then went on to beat Royler's brother Royce and his cousins Renzo and Ryan who were Sakuraba's size.
common grown man on your ass get up and take your licking, this isnt a ''chess match'' but scoot homoathon like u practice all day at ju jitza camp.. i luv seeing gracies get kicked while sitting on there fucking bum. why people aside from sakuraba let them get away with it i dont grasp, just kick em like dogs.

Royler Gracie was THE LOSER GRACIE, first to lose in professional MMA, and more importantly the FIRST TO EVER SUBMIT (to Eddie Bravo). He is the one who destroyed the Gracie Mystique. The worst of all the sons ability wise.
vecuccio 4 weeks ago
@vecuccio First to ever submit? All that proves is he got more brains and/or less steroids than the other disgracies. I wouldn't call that a bad thing.
Even if his attitude is as shit as the rest. Should've given him a yellow card for arguing the referee in such a manner if you ask me. It wasn't something that could be argued, so don't disrespect the man in charge who just saved your arm by argueing it anyway. If he's that argumentative, might as well deduct some of his pay for it.

Sakuraba is way heavier than royler
numerrita 1 month ago
@numerrita yes he is 30lbs heavier than Royler. Good thing he beat Royce, Renzo and Ryan who were all his size or larger. Aswell as defeating folks like Conan Silvera (Prize Gracie student) who was 50lbs heavier.

I have tons of respect for the Gracies for their abilities, but damn I hate their incessant bitching EVERY TIME they lose.

Real win. No cheats. Fair fight.
Gracie is great, of course, but was praying to Sakabura go to the ground fight where he is specialist (obviously, Sakabura is no idiot...).
My surprise here was that Sakabura won on the ground!
Well, nobody can always win...
PS: I'm brazilian.

VirtuousRebel 1 month ago 23
@VirtuousRebel
I think it was Genki Sudo, but you're on the right track.
Kid Yamamoto also KHTFO too !!
Royler was so fucked in this fight, once he realized he couldn't get a take down on Saku he didn't know what the fuck to do !
steveN111333 1 month ago
@VirtuousRebel Actually, Royler was probably fine. The shoulder is much more flexible when close to the body like it was, plus he was using the mat and their bodies to impede it from bending back further. The kimura is much more effective when the arm is further out, effectively "taking the slack" out of the arm.
UltimateAlric 1 month ago
@VirtuousRebel i agree this guy even keeps going when is not necessary! Royce gracie is a shame for the good name of BJJ. And for sure for the original Japanese JuJutsu!
arcaniagothic2 3 weeks ago
@VirtuousRebel he's a gracie. they always pull this shit. the ref shouldve just let sakurabe break his arm in half.

@VirtuousRebel what was the weight difference? oh and the "other guy" as you put it, is Royler Gracie, he's Royce Gracie's older brother
TheCoon2000 2 weeks ago
I am watching this fight for the first time and I am very impressed. Sakuraba is extremely talented. He has stand up, ground game, kicks and his patience is superb. In the beginning of this fight while Royler is on his back he gets side kicked in his face, he then stand up to box and gets knocked down. Very impressive! I wonder if this would be considered modern JKD. Either way this proves you'd better be schooled in more than one system.

Masterjay904 1 month ago
Gracie so damn dominated its not even funny here... Only thing he cares about the whole fight is to try and get Sakuraba to come down and grapple with him (since he has NOTHING on sakuraba standing up). Then when they finally go down he gets owned.

danoi99 1 month ago
@danoi99 why bad loser ? ..he didn't tap, so why has the fight been stopped ?
TheSkullCrossbone 1 month ago
@TheSkullCrossbone The referee stopped the fight to keep him from being severely injured. not to mention he was screaming in pain with each torque. Royler was angry because the fight would have been ruled an automatic draw (a rule he had implemented into the match) if it went the distance even though Saku dominated the entire match.
panther2552 1 month ago
@TheSkullCrossbone coz u dont know the rules of mma very well
ChrisAtWar93 1 month ago
@TheSkullCrossbone I know it looked like Royler or whatshisname may not have tapped, but it only takes another inch further back and something would ave popped out of his socket. Some fighters think they can endure joint manipulation as long as possible until something gives then the crying in pain begins. Ref's are there to prevent the crying.

I always thought the Gracies should have focused on takedowns more; it's really an essential part of the grappling game that GJJ de-emphasizes too much

RESPECT TO SAKURABA, from Brazil!
There's not much to say, the Gracies were good, but Sakuraba was better. Simple as that. And for those Brazilian assholes who defend the Gracies and talk shit about Sakuraba simply because of nationalities, see what Renzo Gracie thinks of Sakuraba, and just then you think about writing something on the matter.

vabs555 1 month ago
@thefiveeagles I would call them flaws as much as weak areas. GJJ has a specific fight strategy, Saku knows it, and strategizes against it. You would have be an amazing boxer, a amazing wrestler or be a little more modern with your Jiu Jitsu to stand a chance. Not that there is anything wrong with GJJ, its highly effective, it's just not gonna cut it against professional fighters
lsloewen2 1 month ago
Sakuraba just showed us the flaws the Gracie jujitsu has.
TheFiveeagles 1 month ago
@TheFiveeagles
