Wow ! Nicholas vallet has trhe tune also in his work. In which of his collections, from 1615 or 1618 ? Vallet and Sweelinck are both from Amsterdam...
I'm not sure what language the video description is, however, this is one of the folk dances we do at the Texas Renaissance Festival this season. I'm sorry there are no videos at this time as I am a performer and unable to have anachronistic devices such as cameras, cell phones, etc. Nice video though. Cheers
We are a women's choir here in Hungary. Last year was Renessaince Year here, and we had created a Renessaince show with great success, and this year we presented this at a famous hungarian castle.
The Gathering Peascods is an old english folk dance, appeared in the 1651 edition of Playford's "The English Dancing Master". Unfortunately I'm unable to send a link here, but if you enter it into google, you can find the description, and the lyrics too.
But the tune is from Amsterdam, Holland, and was appearently composed by Jan Pietersz Sweelinck in the 1610s. It is a short version of his own song "Onder der linden groene" (look at there, marvellous versions !)
