Again here is another article. In the Ecology Letters, in 2004, volume 7, pages 135–145. The article is called "Shifting baselines and the decline of pelagic sharks in the Gulf of Mexico". The research was put forth by two biologists at the University of Dalhousie in Canada.
Here is one article published in Current Biology, Volume 16, pages 2314–2319, on December 5, 2006. It is called "Ongoing Collapse of Coral-Reef Shark Populations" at James Cook University in Australia. This is one of thousands of articles I can reference to support my data and opinions. The point worth making is that a shark is worth very little dead. Sure it can be sold for its, flesh and fins and a shark may be worth 100's of dollars. However alive this shark will bring in 10's perhaps 100's of thousands of dollars in dive tourist revenue during it's life time, from scuba divers anxious to see this animal in the water. It is far better for local economies to let this animal live. Sharks migrate all over the world bringing money to local diving businesses & people they employ.

@dudeluvsbettas you oveusly dont know about sharks. sharks are the main preditor and one of the most important parts of the ocean. where my mom lives there are hundreds of rabbitts everywhere and no predator to kill them because she lives in a gated community witch recently made a fence around the whole place. now they are eating everything! i can go in to her back yard and kill a rabbits without aiming. her front yard use to be a garden and now its a chewed up mess.

The point worth making is that a shark is worth very little dead. Sure it can be sold for its, flesh and fins and a shark may be worth 100's of dollars. However alive this shark will bring in 10's perhaps 100's of thousands of dollars in dive tourist revenue during it's life time, from scuba divers anxious to see this animal in the water. It is far better for local economies to let this animal live. Sharks migrate all over the world bringing money to local diving businesses & people they employ.

You can look like any animal from below. You don't have to be surfing to be mistaked for another animal, and mistaked identity is not only the reason for shark attacks. Another reason is that the shark is curious, since sharks don't have hands, the best way for sharks to see what something is is to bump its snout into the object or to bite it.
