  • got mine 3 days ago, already broke a battery tray, griding rear diff, 2 driveshafts, 2 arms, and a bumper mount >:(

  • mine too....

  • @luthino, it's the ring and pinion gear. It's caused because the bulkheads seperate a bit under heavy acceleration causing the mesh to become to big and lets the teeth grind. I'm waiting on the new bulkheads from Traxxas which should be released end of this month.

  • @CardNox

i know! theres a new rear bulkhead with a new hole for a screw to set it close :)

  • @luthino, yep, I'm hoping it will come out soon. I wanna drive this little thing :D

  • @luthino well, did the new rear bulkhead work? thx :D

  • @CardNox

im not sure if you have upgraded the bulkheads or not but the new ones do not fix the problem. i just replaced my front ring and pinion and then the rear ones stripped out. the only solution i have found on the internet is to replace the front and rear bulkheads with upgraded aluminum ones.

  • @hpibajajumper, I had the new bulkheads when I sold the MERV. However the rear one also started stripping again. It's a tough car but the driveline/bulkheads are total crap. I'm gonna buy the Savage XS when it's widely available :)

  • @CardNox

ive have replaced all of my drivelines and i got aluminum bulkheads and it solved my diff stripping problem

  • when you shim your diff...where do you shim it? and what size shims...and what shims did you use? can you make a vid showing where to shim?

  • okay my rear dif is doing the same thing what ended up being the problem i really need to know!

  • @madisonvillehobbies, well, I shimmed it with just 1 shim. But after some bad landings some teeth were grined a little so I ended up replacing the diff.

  • @CardNox did you replace the whole diff or buy the spider gears and rebuild....are the spider gears what strip? i have a stripped rear dif what do you recommend to do?

  • @madisonvillehobbies, i just bought the ringgear with a pinion gear, without the spider diffs because 4 teeth on the ringgear were a bit stripped, the internal felt good, havn't check them tbh.

    Just replace what is broken.

  • @CardNox is it obvious to see the strip? cause when i looked at both my diffs i didnt see anything on the outside...because i have stripped siffs before and it is always the spider gears

  • @madisonvillehobbies, here it wasn't really obvious since it was just 4 teeth and they were scuffed, not broken off or anything. But of course that depends on the situation.

  • @CardNox so when you shim...do you shim inside of the diff. where the spider gears are or outside of the diff.?

  • @madisonvillehobbies, the outside. So making sure the mesh between the ring gear and the diff pinion is good.

  • @CardNox is that what normally strips or do you know? should i just get a new ring gear???? or a new diff pinion...should i worry about spider gears???

  • @madisonvillehobbies, no idea. You need the stuff thats broken, and if it isn't broken don't fix it. How can I know what you need :) ?

  • check your bearings. the tiny things dont last long. check you dont have too many shims in there

  • Yeah, also got them tip from a forum member, hopefully that's it.

I started with 0 shims and friction so I thought I would shim the diffring away from the diffpinion but that didn't seem to help (at all).

Will check the pinion tomorrow after my emergency rooth canal threatment :(

  • hope youre smiling soon :)

you need shims on the diff pinion only, not the ring gear. you need shims to push the diff pinion into the diff itself. if you have shims on both, you will just end up with pressure.

    good luck!

  • Well the size of these shims where for the diff itself. Anyway, I will remove them tomorrow, check the bearings and then put it together again. Thanks again for your valuable advice!

  • Well raced the little fella today. I removed the shims and suddenly everything was perfectly smooth. Strange because I started with 0 shims but what ever, it works perfectly now.
