Mine tries to roll heavily on take off, but in flight it flies hands off... Had a broken wing, but got the new one on last night so today she'll take to the skies again...
Every time, I hear that music, I have to watch "The Battle of Britain" (blu-ray). One of the top war movie music themes of all time. Another one that you don't hear much is the main theme from "Where Eagles Dare"
Thanks for the advice on power settings at takeoff. Neither my F4U (with a Power 15) nor my Thunderbolt have nearly the torque roll that the 109 has...! At takeoff, full power with plenty of elevator only created cartwheel to the left with the BF 109....which had me scratching my head wondering how Parkzone could design something so different from the other PZ planes I fly. Any other takeoff/landing advice you can provide is most appreciated!
Great flying and great choice of music using the fabulous, "Luftwaffe March" from the Battle of Britain.
It's a great model and I am tempted but but already have the Spitfire.
It's a shame they didn't put the swastika on the tail. It looks wrong without it... political correctness can go too far when it interferes with historical accuracy :)
It's no problem calling it ME-109 - the British did throughout the war! It's only history-nerds that will bore you to death insisting it must be called by the German identifier BF-109.
Congratulations for the video and demonstration, I have bought one recently, the model is done really well, Can you give me advice on the first installations.
Looks like this plane is becoming a hit all over the world! My pop is bringing me the kit from the USA for 80$ (airframe only) - they're 149€ here in Germany!
By the way, there's no reason to bother with BF vs. ME 109. BF= Bayrische Flugzeugwerk and later Willi Messerschmitt bought them out so it then became the "ME" 109. Kinda like today, almost NO plane actually has its original name! e.g. General Dynamics F-16 is now a Lockheed/Martin F-16?!
Great song! It's from the opening scenes in "The Battle of Britain" I'll pop in the DVD just to hear this great Germanic march. It makes me wanna go out and get this plane
Sparkie! Great vid and the German march anthem was super! I just got a 109 and am installing retracts. Keep up the great work! (and try to keep your hat on).
Thanks for your comments.... I had just watch the Battle Of Brittan when I did this, and could not get the tune out of my head... Just one of those things. Thanks for your kind comments.
cool i am considering getting one really not sure thou. Btw gr8 music choice love all the old marches theme songs etc. how much difference is there in landing with and without flaps?
Dramatic... Flaps should be a requirement. You really want to add flaps. This one was modified to use the regular flaps, plus flaps like the real one had that mounts right beside of them. Really helps slow it down for landing, and saves a lot of wing tips.
There's a slight urban legend concerning the different tail marking on this Parkzone model: a flyer risk less chances of crashing without the swastika symbol...
Perhaps, Uncle Adolf placed a hex on any future German aircraft with such marking!
I'm getting one as a Christmas present for myself... It looks like it's great to fly! I also own a E-flite T-34 Mentor...Being as this 109 comes with a 15 motor, I wonder how my power 25 with a 4 cell would pull this li'l foamy around... Time will tell, I suppose.
The Power 15 does a fantastic job of flying this model. The biggest problem is landing because of the narrow gear and bashing wing tipms on landing. Take-off's require partial power and coming up smooth. A power 25 would have a lot more torgue and be heavier as well. I think the 15 is about optimal. The 25 would be too heavy and cause even more of a torque problem.
Flight characteristics are fantastic, however, until you get used to landing it (with the gear so close to each other), it can be difficult to keep from hitting the wing tips... Wing Skids are a great and recommended option.
nice flying, and plane. The takeoff was very scale, but use more rudder to compensate for torque, or was that wind? either way, use more rudder for takeoff.
That was the maiden flight... The flying has much been improved, and believe me the pilot flying this model knows rudder control. There was a fair amount of wind that day, but my the same token, it is a very unique plane to fly.
@sparkie951 You gotta love all the key board pilots out there! Point is the video says Maiden flight. Maiden flights are almost always a little quirky with a new plane no matter how good you are. I could tell you deffinately know how to use a rudder by watching 15 secounds of your flying unlike some of the other pros out there. Great video Sparkie!
@drewpert15 It is a good plane, but not a beginners plane. I was not flying, but TA152 has about 30 years or more experience. He uses a rudder more than anyone else I know of and does so effectively. I will forward the comment to him.
Nice Joice of music. Are you going to add flaps? It might help on landings. That's a really nice field you have to flaps. The only thing that bugs me about this 109 is the omission of the correct tail markings.
Thanks for the comments, As for flaps, they have been added. As for our field, we are all very proud of our field. The tail markings were not on prior to this video... Guess they had to be Politically Correct, but they have been added now so that makes us "NOT" Politically Correct.
having said that alfa sells their fw-190 in Germany. It is by law that a kit can't be sold with the swastica on the plane so i think they will do the same as alfa and sell the kit with the swasticas cut in half (non applied) so the buyer can choose whether to have them on or not :). it looks a lovely plane i love the scale detail they've given it. R u goin to put retracts and flaps on yours at all?
hopefully, I have slight income problems right now, the biggest one eing that im 15 but if I do get it ill prob put flaps\spoilers on. No retracts though on a plane that small hand launching and belly langins arn't a problem. Rather just save the weight for a bigger battery or just leave it extra light and sleek by covering up the wheel wells.
the me109 didnt really exist officially, basically the design on the bf109 was completed a long time before germany ordered that all planes be named after their creator, hence why the me262 was a me262 and not a bf262 also the same for the ta152 which if the order hadnt of come through would of been called the fw152 after the factory
Just like the real BF 109 it's quite tricky to to take off and land cause of the way the landing gear is angled. Looks like it does have alot of power though.
no the me262 is the jet .. this aircraft was offered both as the bf and the me .. although the me was considered to be the better of the two .. im not a history buff .. and if im incorrect , im sure someone will say so .. but the me109 was deffinitley not a jet
Just a little advise from personal experience, I also removed the landing gear on the PK F4U, also remove the link to the tail wheel so the servo is not stressed by the grass on landings...
I have one of those as well, and yes they are good fliers... However, I use mine with the gear, but have the skid plates as well. It is a good plane to fly, but stock, certainly is not the fastest in the group.
It can be alittle tricky... On take off, don't use full power, The wing tip will drop on you.. Also, very tricky to land... Protect the wing tips.. You will find out why :)
Thats the first example of a belly landing ive seen with this plane .. looked as if it went smoothly .. my fears of broken props and such have been layed to rest thanks for the look at this great plane .. ill pick mine up from the hobby store today or tomorrow.. happy flying Randy
Went smooth... However, a word to the wise.. Protect the scoop with something... We used Erosion Tape from Scotch (usually only found in the airline industry), but anything will work, Otherwise you may cause premature damage and wear... Also, with the cooling intake on the bottom, expect some grass inside the plane :).

How small an area could you use to fly this plane. Use "football fields" as the reference. One two 3? Side by side?

There was also a Luftwaffe squadron that flew with the "green heart" on the fuselage; with such insignia on a plane, your model IS INDESTRUCTABLE!!!
