I like your video but I do have to say social workers make a difference. It is how the worker perceives life through their own eyes. If the worker views an individual as a person and not a client like you said, then they can make a difference. And even though you don't like the profession, you seem to be making a big difference. It takes an abstract mind and an independent thinker to go against the motion and choose to treat every one as a human being not a deformity.
Social work has lost its meaning. It's there to help the people not to be a mindless puppet so corporations can make money. Good thing I don't like playing by the rules.

U.S. social workers I supervised that come to Australia show this tendency to need to learn the system as a priority over being able to demostrate skills."Working a system" is a "sort of skill" but not a skill in comparison to psychotherapy for example.

Oh there's a need for it(social work), but just a more client centered and customized approach such as you employ, albeit you have to cut the corners of The System to deliver.
You know something's wrong with the community mental health and welfare system, when these rinky-dink clinics have a CEO and CFO(Corporate Financial Officer)and there's huge money/man hours spent writing "Grants" for money that just raises the CEO & CFO salaries.
I take pride that I've put 5 Associate degree, 1 BS degree, and 1 Ph.D degree social workers into stress units in my time. They all got my wrath and were SO stripped down by me that they had to leave the social work field.
Their crime? Well, they bandied the "Appropriate/Inappropriate" word around and tried to bash me with it and make me conform to the status quo bullshit world. Then I showed them The Monster society had made me into because of lack of intimacy/stimulation.
If I had a dollar for every time a robotic social worker bashed me with the "Appropriate/Inappropriate" word... well, I'd have like $85 I guess.
Wait, that didn't work out right.. I want $1000 or a million, lol.
What REALLY sucks, is how EASY they can put you in a nut-house. They did it to me just because I muttered some self-pity shit about "what's the use, I'm hopeless..." then BOOM I'm tied down in an ambulance.
And my ID is "Flagged" now that I was in a nut-house. I'm "A Number" now.
I know, especially when the EMTs are back there smoking with the oxygen tanks, lol!
They were cool, though, and judged me not crazy and took off the restraints. But had to tie me back down at crazy town so the Admittance Nurse would take me. I even kicked in a little "Stop the voices!" for kicks-- wtf, a Judge court ordered me committed because the social worker freaks overreacted about me being suicidal, I was fucked.

i have been in 'institutions 4 times..once in US Army..1980.. i was basically given an entire wing in the mental unit..in Nurnberg, germany..the army didnt know what to do with me.. there i learned how to be a slacker..get up, have breakfast, read the paper, take a nap. then about 12 go to the library , read, watch a film and then take another nap..after 6pm, the local guest houses,, for beer!!! aw the life!!
I was in the Army also. Commo, 9th Signal. When my son was young, we had someone make a false report on us. It was a gut wrenching experience the social worker could see by visiting, unannounced, it was not true. The asshole was someone my spouse worked with he said we we beat my beautiful boy and burned him with cigarettes. He is now 22 but still my beautiful boy:)

We never hit him. Ever. Violence breeds violence. Period. There are intelligent ways of teaching your child what is right and wrong. It just takes work. We choose to have one child so we could afford to give him a good life. I feel there needs to be less emphasis on giving people financial incentives for having children in this country. Great vlog. I must say that I have been lucky to have a great clinic and great counselors but I totally agree with you about social workers being nothing more than agents of the government. I could not believe what my neighbor told me he had to go through just to get a few dollars in food stamps. Unbelievable
This guy has been a hard working coal miner for over 20 years. He injured himself roofing his home and was out of work without being able to collect workers compensation. So,while he was recovering he needed to get a few food stamps so that his family could make it through the month(only asking for one or two months mind you). I was shocked at some of the things that he told me he was asked and how they made him feel like shit. They want the experience to be as unpleasant as possible these days.
The more unpleasant the harder it will be for someone to go ask for help and that is exactly what they want. Our country is so fucked up that it is proabably beyond repair. We need to turn into a nation of Robin Hoods..we should TAKE the money from the rich. What a sad country. Yanno Slacker..I often question myself why our society is the way it is. In many ways its a vicious circle. Money going out, money going in, you know. And when it comes to America, some time ago I read an article about how many poor people there actually are in America. Appearantly poverty in USA has increased quite much the last few years.

Yanno Slacker..I often question myself why our society is the way it is. In many ways its a vicious circle. Money going out, money going in, you know. And when it comes to America, some time ago I read an article about how many poor people there actually are in America. Appearantly poverty in USA has increased quite much the last few years.

These words dehumanize people so as to make them aware of who's who. Truly, the most sane people in the world are those who are insane. "If men do not die insane, they have not lived. If men do die insane, they have achieved greatness in all its forms. Only with insanity can you be truly judged as great." - I will never finish my book, but I do like that part. :(
