nobody has actually been with them from the beginning though. maybe about warning-ish or nimrod. but the beginning was aloooong time ago. you;d have to be in your mid to late 30's to have seen it all. and if anyones that age and typing stuff on youtube, its abit sad. luckily i'm 17, so i can!

@RIPcortes27 Exactly, I don't mind the new wave of fans, but it annoys me when they claim to know everything about Green Day and they are their biggest fan when they just know two albums.
I don't mind if you only like a few Green Day songs, if you do just don't claim that you know everything about them.

@TheJamieD im NOT TRYING TO START ANYTHING*** but, im like 14 and i know from 1,000 hours to 21stCB and about three of my friends are the same. It shows new fans aren't as bad as older fans make them out to be sometimes, yes sometimes new fans can be huge assholes but just not all of us.

@RIPcortes27 Definitely spot on. I got into Green Day back in the day when i was about 10, i absolutely idolised them. got stick off a few other kids all being like, 'Who are they? Green Gay!?'
Then years later when American Idiot was out, they were all like 'Hey , have you eard that new band called Green Day!!1? American Idiot is a well good song!?'
It fucking well annoyed me, I went through a period where I couldnt listen to American Idiot. I've gotten over that now though.

I want to be honest and make a few points here: Green Day's music change doesn't bother me (it's their style), it's the fact that they are a punk band and now they dress up like an emo band and dye their hair black and hundreds of preppy girls are listening to them, and they're letting it happen. If they saw a prep at this concert, they'd tell them to fucking leave. But, nope, not anymore, now they feed off this disgusting stereotype. It's terrible. And they're conforming for fame.

well, when dookie came out billie said himself that he noticed that the people coming to the concerts were getting younger and younger (i.e. ~10 +/- 3 years) but i didn't see him telling them to "fucking leave"... the same exact thing you're getting mad over, happened then. except we didn't have youtube to get pissed off on.

It's not the age, it's the type of people...it's the stereotypes. Nobody's independent at their concerts anymore, they all look like clones, and sadly, Green Day looks just like that too, and they're feeding off this mass stereotype to make money. That's not very punk, which was their first outlook. That's pretty close-minded and capitalistic.

I understand your point, but it's more than that. Most of the people I talk to don't know the lyrics. Most of them just say "Woo! Billie is hot!". Almost all of them are homophobic, and when I point out that this song is about him coming out of the closet and admitting he's bisexual, they say "No it's not. He's too cool to be bisexual or gay." They don't understand this, and why can't Green Day continue bieng independent? Or at least stop dressing emo and becoming a stereotype!

I'm a freshmen in high-school and have been a fan since my grandmother bought me American Idiot all the way back in '04. I have yet to here a Greenday song, new or old, that I haven't loved.
