I am shocked at the abysmal state of retailing in this country. The high prices, extremely limited selection of products, the very dirty, poorly kept stores, terrible customer service, it goes on and on. There is nothing good about retailing in Australia and it is due to the almost total lack of competition. We need Costco and every other international retailer we can get. Australian companies are a joke; they treat the country as their little kingdom and they do what they want.

As a customer I think this is a huge invasion of privacy. As a buyer I was actually very disappointed at the lack of customer service provided by Big W at the Sale in the early hours of the morning. Instead of worrying about recording customers perhaps the staff need to be trained in customer service and maybe all the items could have been in stock. The majority of night fill staff at big w are students earning their way through study. Slack?? Yes there probably isn't enough staff put on to accommodate for the number of customers and yes there isn't enough stock allocated to the stores during the sale. Both issues have nothing to do with the average worker at the store which is who you are attacking. 'only hire slack arses as the people with a life and who work well have "real jobs"! Ya Australian retailing is a VERY degrading experience to someone who comes from Europe or North America. The supermarkets, both Coles and Safeway, and the discount retailers are a total disgrace and could only exist in a market like Australia where there is little competition and where consumers are not sophisticated enough to know the garbage they are getting.
