I am extremely active, but decided to restrict my diet to 1200 calories a day to quickly lose just a couple of pounds...within 1 week I got down with a horrible cold that I'm sure was the immediate consequence of my diet (I was feeling tired and had an extreme lack of energy throughout the week before getting sick). The amount of calories you need depends on the person I guess. Now I'm upping my calorie intake to 1600/day and we'll see what happens :)
the 1200 cals. is good for someone trying to lose weight. uu should never go below that. it takes 1200 jus for your body to function- heart, lungs, kidneys, digestion, breathing, pumping blood etc.
this doesn't include thinking, walking or anyting that requires energy. this is why its necessary for someone whose athletic to have about 2200 or more calories a day, but this isn't hurting these people one bit
It's funny how she feels safe eating all those crisps, when all that salt and fat from them are probably gonna give her a heart attack before she hits 50 lol
If they're all on diets, what the bleep are they doing getting together over junk food? I get it, they like their booze, can you cut it with carbonated water? Make low cal party food like lettuce wraps, Skewered shrimp with vegetables, stuffed mushrooms?
Find a calorie calculator online. The appropriate number of calories per person will vary, especially based on your current height and weight. 1200 would be ridiculous for me (I'm quite tall), but I have no trouble believe it would be appropriate for someone short trying to lose weight.
@5Heliotrope She´s not exactly slim, is she? And all she eats is crisps; those tiny packs don´t have a lot of calories. Even if they had 200 each and she ate 10 in day, that would be 2000 cal.
@horsesZrule Actually, 1200 is quite normal (a person my size who has my level of activity for example only needs to eat 1300 calories a day), they're just eating a little bit less than their body needs so that they'll loose weight, and remember it's only for two weeks. To be classed as anorexic you must have eaten 500 cals or less every day for 2 months or more.
@watashiwasakuradesu there is no calorie limit to be classified as anorexic. before you make assumptions get your facts straight, anorexia is a psychological disease, calorie restriction is only one aspect of it.
@laurenngg i'm a guy. i think we're supposed to have about 2500 calories a day, right? So what is my minimum intake supposed to be? I feel sometimes i am anorexic but i feel like those ppl don't know they are. What sorts of things should i be eating or doing when i don't rly care for food and all shows seemed to be geared towards girls only? :(
@watashiwasakuradesu: There is no specific calorie criteria to be diagnosed with anorexia. I know anorectics that eat 1200 calories a day but lose weight by exercising too much. You do not have to eat 500 calories or less to be anorexic, that's a complete myth.
@watashiwasakuradesu No, "500 cals or less every day for 2 months or more" is not the diagnostic criteria for anorexia AT ALL. The diagnostic criteria for anorexia doesn't even MENTION calories. You are completely misinformed.
@horsesZrule That is not true, I'm eating 1200 calories a day, I have no hunger at all, I am not anorexic (far from it), but my plate is always full of veggies, fruit, non processed cereals and grains, and a good amount of lean fresh protein. I even snack on cashew, almonds and other mixed nuts on ocasion. Lost about 9 pounds so far. I'm 5.4 tall 31 yrs old active mom of 2 girls under 8. 12 days and counting yay! :D
It depends on the person on the diet, yes it would be under eatting if you had someone that was 6 foot and did about an hour of cardio everyday but if you had someone that was 5 foot 4 that did about 20 minutes of exercise a day then it wouldn't be under eatting.
@horsesZrule It anorexics would eat 1200 calories a day...well,there wouldn't exist any anorexic...anorexics eat around 500 calories a day or much much less...
@horsesZrule Absolutely incorrect. 1200 calories a day is NOT anorexic behavior. It's difficult for most women to meet all their micro- and macronutrient needs at less than 1200 calories per day, but that doesn't mean that their caloric needs themselves are being neglected. For the average woman (average sized or slightly larger, without very heavy activity), 1200 calories is a perfectly reasonable weight-loss intake.
Banning "bad" foods entirely is often a bad idea. Just eat them less often.

1200 calories a day isn't anorexic behaviour and there is not a specific number of calories a person must eat per day to be diagnosed with anorexia.

Eating only 1200 a day is technically starving oneself, and would count as anorexic behavior.

@Moreba I agree! You can eat a lot for 1200 calories if you are creative enough.

It depends on the person on the diet, yes it would be under eatting if you had someone that was 6 foot and did about an hour of cardio everyday but if you had someone that was 5 foot 4 that did about 20 minutes of exercise a day then it wouldn't be under eatting.
Depends on the person.

@horsesZrule I think some anorexic definitions mention caloric intakes below 500. There is a big difference.
