When Micky says "R" rating, he really means "M" (as in "Mature") . The "PG" rating didn't come into existence until years later. At the time "Head" was released, some theaters replaced the "G" rating with "M."
@RadioLaPrincess Well, they're obviously giving you information you didn't know. Pay attention. It was initially an R rating. Then, moving closer to release time, it was changed at the last minute. Hopes this clears it up a little better for you.
@klwewf actually I have looked and spoke to someone at the MPAA and they said the film was never rated R. It should have been rated PG or course (M at the time)but don't think it was R material.

They have all said at different times it was to be an R rated picture originally. And, .......you know what? Nevermind. Peter will be in Adel, GA november 4th and 5th because our high school band is doing a monkees halftime show, annd shoe suede blues will be preforming at our theatre that saturday night, if your in the area please come and watch!
It makes me sad how years after the monkees were cancelled they were still trying to prove themselves im 14 years old and they proved themselves to me!

They showed scenes from the NBC special "33 1/3 RPM (Revolutions Per Monkee)" but oddly there was no comment about it on this special. Weird!
