What f? the whole Psychedelic genre relies on exotic instrument, and mainly Indian Instruments, and most notably the Sitar.

i play a sitar that I traded for in Manitou Springs, Colorado. A place that specializes in Dulcimers. It's been a great joy to play, but it's nothing like a guitar. If you're intuitive on string, you can pick it up, but it's something of a holy thing. This series on learning to play has been the most informative and well instructed I've seen.

Why is the fret distance uneven?

@martse11 I believe it's because the sitar uses somewhat of a different tuning than, say, a guitar. It's more of a pure tuning. A guitar is in equal temperament, meaning each note is slightly out of tune but you can play in all keys, whereas a sitar is able to play more precisely in tune but can only play in one key at a time.

rofl. it's a frickin sitar, they were never made to play rock. There are some rock songs with Sitar in them, though. Some Led Zeppelin stuff, some Beatles stuff. Music written for Sitar is cool enough on in and of itself.

Any song can be played on the sitar. It is an extremely customizable instrument. The intonation and style varies from player to player but the sitar holds the capacity to play any note in western music.
