I live in Minnesota and ride my Yamaha Vino 125 all winter. I just use the stock tires - no special gear needed. On days like this when there's snow & ice over the roads, I use my feet as training wheels. If my front wheel ever skids (like the guy in the video) I just stand up, ski for a bit, and pull the bike back up. I've never dumped it like this.
I know there's footage of me here somewhere, because there are always idiots hanging out of their car windows filming me instead of driving.

i have harley davidson heritage softail classic, u just would'nt would you in that weather, thumbs up to the biker for trying but he was going a bit fast, hes lucky he can pick that scooter up, as my bike is about 400kg its a beast if it went down its staying down. true biker style tho fall off, get up, dust off, pick up, lets go again. lol.
oh yeah to right i got a mad scar on my hip after a little crash on my first bike and i got back up dusted of can me bike still get me home or is it not ridable it was ok apart from scratches and the gear leaver was bent in bent it back out off i went home
actually your Softtail would do very good in snow if you put a set of DOT knobbies on it (like TKC 80's), the extra weight will help it bite in. Only thing that woudl stink is ground clearance in deep snow.
i was out today on my aprilia sr50r 09 model compleatly smashed it into the frount of the buss :( i went round a corner and my back wheel just went was kinda funny but the bike is totald lol
