Gotta love the mobile Guard Tower in the final section of the video. Back ground and quick, but unmistakable...We live in a police state with state sponsored propaganda ...it's no wonder most of us have learned of this only today.
this just goes to show the events of that not only affected us as americans, but it also affected the world, the lives that were lost that day and the thousands since then will never be forgotten
At first I felt annoyed that the media saw fit not to televise this beautiful monument nationwide. However, I did not want that to spoil the gratitude I felt that it was brought to my attention by a friend. Thank you, Russia for the empathy and compassion. I hope we pay it forward. sschneider
I hope Russia & America can remain good friends, though we seem to be on different sides of the world. Russia was the first to respond to the 911 attacks with us and for that, we thank you Russia.
I like how they inscribed "Gift" above "From the People of Russia". Every time I read it I always imagine hearing someone saying it to me in a Russian accent, emphasizing "Gift". This monument represents not only Russia's sympathy but just how far we have come from the Cold War. I just hope relations continue to improve. Thank you, Russia!
Zurab Tserelli wanted to put a Christopher Columbus Statue in my native Puerto Rico.It was originally put to build in Catano under Edwin Sierra administration as the Major, but they moved it to Mayaguez.
I just gained a hell of a lot more respect for the people of russia. Now every time I see an American put down a Russian or make fun of the Russian culture, I am going to send them the link to this video :). This is also serves as an influence for me to continue my studies of the Russian language.
A friend sent me a Power Point of this generous and thoughtful gift from Russia. The monument sits parallel to the Statue of Liberty. Names of the victims enscribed.
I was not able to upload a PP video, so looked this up on You Tube--sharing it here.
Glad to have found this memorial and agreed it's a shame that there was virtual no publicity compared to usual TV filler! I don't see the offensive aspect and pardon but I don't believe little kids will be pointing to the sky shouting "LOOK, VAGINA" and if it does look like one, even if the artist portrayed it that way on purpose- would it be that horrible to maybe embrace the softness of feminine energy against the usual aggressive tone related to the tragedy of the event?
Really generous thing for Russia to do. I didn't even know this existed until today. Not sure why this didn't get media coverage but then again the American media hates it's own people and troops so it's no surprise.
I got this through my old high school classmates. Knowing their nature, I felt sure someone was making a joke about the Russians giving us a 911 memorial that looked like a giant stylized woman's part complete with little man in the rowboat.
I never heard of this in the news media. I am going to check if others knew about it. It is beautiful and very caring of them to think of the United States in this manner. Very thoughtful of the Russian People. Thank you!
I still feel the events of 911 as much as the next man, but is no one going to mention the elephant in the room? When I first saw this I was sure it was a photoshopped joke, and I am astounded to learn it's real. The intent may be heartfelt and pure, but I am a devout Catholic and a worker in the Church, and the first thing I thought was that's a great joke, it looks like a - wait, it's real?
This was done sooo quietly, without much press coverage, because Bush was busy being busy the year that this was installed! He would have made this seem quite foolish with his jibber jabber. So glad he is in Texas, off the ranch scene, and remains quiet.
This is very true the people of Russia took it upon themselves and gave us the people of the U.S. of A. this beautiful Monument. THANK YOU RUSSIA WE ARENT ALL THE SAME. APPRECIATE THE GIFT.
I can't believe that this gift from Russia was never on the mainstream news media. Russia and the USA are both fighting a war against terrorism, and I believe that if we work together, then we will win.
i never heard of this before to day, i send thanx from usa, but our fight is far from over, and i hope the Russian people know there is a war raging here to defend or liberty's and freedom not from some crazy with a bomb but with our own government, there is a lot more going on then what the news clams.I would love to here some ones opinion of world events from that side of the world
that is beautiful! Wonderful gesture. Especially considering what was going on just a few decades ago.
A good friend of mine recently sent me an email about this, and I can't believe I never heard about this before!
I'm Canadian, and i think my country should build a 9/11 monument for the USA as well. maybe on the 10th anniversary in 2011. After all, the USA is our closest ally.
This beautiful sculpture captures the emotion and the image of tragedy.TY Russia.TY sculptor Zurab Tsereteli. The 11 sides of the monument's base bear the names of those that died in the 9 11 attacks & 93 WTC bombing.Tsereteli worked w/Eunice Kennedy Shriver through the Special Olympics. He designed a monument: Happiness to the Children of the World commemorating the 79 Special Olympics & International Year of the Child. Shame on the US presss lack of coverage on this $12M GIFT: Tear
As some of you know i was adopted from Russia. I was disappointed to find out that the monument was not covered until several days later. 1st of all, who doesnt notice a huge monument of a TearDrop. 2nd, it was a precious gift from Russia to the USA in memory of all who died on that that nightmare day
was the inside of the Tear inspected? This weighs 40 tons! The questions is... 40 tons of what??? The outside is made of nickel according to the artist from russia who created it, Zurab Tsereteli , I think? "I hope they checked the inside?"
Gratefiul thanks to the people of Russia for doing this, a lovely sculpture with such sensitivity,.Unfortunately nothing covered about it in the US media - shame on them (but I've learned that it is youtube and other online sources that hold the truth.) Bless you.
Thanks for the outstanding sculpture people of Russia. I guess the press reporters did not read the internet this day and too windy for them to venture from the dark caves that they live. We make statues and this is most outstanding I have seen in many years!
Thanks!

Huh, never heard about this on the news. Usually I'd toss out a 'In soviet russia' joke, but it kinda seems in bad taste here.

This is a monument to friendship from and between the Russian people to the American people.
