At first I felt annoyed that the media saw fit not to televise this beautiful monument nationwide. However, I did not want that to spoil the gratitude I felt that it was brought to my attention by a friend. Thank you, Russia for the empathy and compassion. I hope we pay it forward. sschneider

I like how they inscribed "Gift" above "From the People of Russia". Every time I read it I always imagine hearing someone saying it to me in a Russian accent, emphasizing "Gift". This monument represents not only Russia's sympathy but just how far we have come from the Cold War. I just hope relations continue to improve. Thank you, Russia!

Zurab Tserelli wanted to put a Christopher Columbus Statue in my native Puerto Rico.It was originally put to build in Catano under Edwin Sierra administration as the Major,but they moved it to Mayaguez.

A friend sent me a Power Point of this generous and thoughtful gift from Russia. The monument sits parallel to the Statue of Liberty. Names of the victims enscribed.

Glad to have found this memorial and agreed it's a shame that there was virtual no publicity compared to usual TV filler! I don't see the offensive aspect and pardon but I don't believe little kids will be pointing to the sky shouting "LOOK, VAGINA" and if it does look like one, even if the artist portrayed it that way on purpose- would it be that horrible to maybe embrace the softness of feminine energy against the usual aggressive tone related to the tragedy of the event?

I got this through my old high school classmates. Knowing their nature, I felt sure someone was making a joke about the Russians giving us a 911 memorial that looked like a giant stylized woman's part complete with little man in the rowboat.

I still feel the events of 911 as much as the next man, but is no one going to mention the elephant in the room? When I first saw this I was sure it was a photoshopped joke, and I am astounded to learn it's real. The intent may be heartfelt and pure, but I am a devout Catholic and a worker in the Church, and the first thing I thought was that's a great joke, it looks like a - wait, it's real?

I was disappointed to find out that the monument was not covered until several days later. 1st of all, who doesnt notice a huge monument of a TearDrop. 2nd, it was a precious gift from Russia to the USA in memory of all who died on that that nightmare day
