I'm amazed at all the people asking for tabs. He is standing still and playing it right in front of you, people. You can watch the video as many times as you want, rewind it, etc. He has dot inlays. He tells you the tuning in the description. If you can't figure out how to play it from this, then you have a problem, and you would really benefit from forcing yourself to figure it out by watching him.
I was able to get the tone that JFK gets by running 2 outputs out of my bass 1 of them went into a fender full stack guitar amp with a 200 watt crate head with built in distortion.. I ran most of the high and mid end through this with the gain cranked to full. I ran the second output into a GK 300 watt head with 2 4x10 cabs and I ran them at a slightly lower volume than the guitar stack but i ran them clean. The result was a very clean and loud distortion like JFKs with a lot of kick. I like
@Guimo3D The muff only has one knob that really does a whole lot and that's the gain. The other two are just fine tuning. You just have to experiment with the amp and pedal settings together. Also the bass is a short scale with super thick strings (114-80, something like that) and a Super Distortion guitar pick up.
You also can never discount the tone of the player. So much tone comes from your fingers and how you attack the strings.
@itsnottruerufus It's a russian Big Muff (the black ones). They are the cheaper of the big muff family but I like em better than the american ones. There is a little bit of a phaser ahead of it at a really high rate, though I'm pretty sure he uses a chorus. I just have a phaser that sounds wetter so I prefer it to chorus. It's all run into Guitar Rig 4 with just the generic bass head in it - all the tone is mostly the pedals and the bass itself.
@squareversesine Sorry for not reading the description man. But what does the SD sound like without distortion? Is it any good? Would you mind putting up a little demo? I'd really like to try this on a bronco of my own. Thanks!
@CCGuitarGod I'll try to do something else with it but I pretty much built it to run this kinda sound so it's not terrible great clean. It kind sounds like a tuned down guitar with thick strings :)
@CCGuitarGod It doesn't, I pretty much only play it with distortion :). The key is that the bass is really tinny, closer to a guitar but the thick strings will naturally sound thicker and react different to distortion.
Also, if you guys are really into DFA I'm in a duo and we did a whole cover set last year. There is a link to it in the description. We released it for free on xmas this year.
The bass I'm using is a standard Squier Bronco Bass, but I swapped out the pot and the pickup is a Dimarzio Super Distortion guitar pickup. It's tuned down 1 step to DGCF (like DFA1979). The scrape intro is correct but it's a short scale bass so the harmonics wouldn't be the same as a full scale Rickenbacker bass.
@RocketEdd It looks like a squier bronco bass that had it's original single coil (strat) pickup replaced with a guitar humbucker. Surprisingly enough, it sounds really good, with some distorion, at least. btw, @squareversesine what kind of pickup is that?
Is it D tuning?!
mascagao 1 month ago

no joke man, that is the sickest of sick bass tones out there. i play metal guitar, and i wish more bands in metal played with bass that raunchy.
zdkezios 5 months ago
that's really really good, the tone is almost the same. the closest i've heard.
fragatahugo 6 months ago
Isn't this usually played on the 3rd fret? Did you tune your bass down or something
MiltankLizard 8 months ago
@MiltankLizard Read the description. Tuned to DGCF
Lmpfapo1 7 months ago
@MiltankLizard The original song is played tuned down, the harmonics and open strings don't work otherwise.

What are you using for Distortion/Overdrive in this?, you really nailed the tone!

Bad ass. Are those pinch harmonics starting at 2:47?
dalevanmail 1 year ago
@dalevanmail Pick scrapes actually. I'm playing the correctly but it's a shortscale bass so the harmonics aren't the same as a full scale neck
