ive been doing the water drop effect on signs for some clients in my signwriting business for over 15 years. i even spray it onto vinyl and cut lettering and graphics out of it. * you can get a far better effect if you spray a light colour from the opposite side after you spray the dark paint on (and use on more of an angle). letting it dry takes too long for me so i use a heat gun to evaporate the water, then i spray clear varnish over the top, otherwise the paint can lift up sometimes.
when your doing the water droplet effect do you have to wait until the paint is dry and then spray water on top of it or does it have to be wet? thanks awesome vidoes by the way!
just stumbled accross your videos for the first time and i am completely hooked on! just a couple of questions abt this technique... can it be done on canvas? and can i use acrylic paint for the base instead of spray paint?
really appreciate all the videos you've made. very very helpful and a great inspiration. Thankx a lot!
I'm not an artist or student, but I bought some large canvas' and I've been trying to figure out what to do with them. I stumbled across your videos and I've watched every one. I appreciate what you have been doing and I want to thank you for doing it. -Austin
Also love the idea of the paint chips I am always collecting them just because i get attracted by all that colour. Right off to buy me some door mats. Just thought... you could use those plastic(tacky) doilies that you get in the cheap bargain shops as well. I am looking at stuff with new eyes. Everything is now a stencil or a bit of collage.
Oh also before I go what basic spray paint colours would you recommend if I had to get only 3 or 4.
Yes doilies work a treat too! I haven't experimented using other colours besides back to get the bubbles so i can't tell you but i can't see why it wouldn't work, i might experiment with a variety of different colours to see what works best.
Now the colours i recommend if fire engine red (or just plain red if u can't get it...but a more orangy red), Taxi yellow and blue RAL...if u can get it but if not just a blue with a certain amount of green in it...And u also need a matt white and a black can too...so basically all the primary colours and black and white...cause from there u can blend the colours!
You always come up with the best ideas! I love using the mat as a stencil. I have used paint samples in my work before too. Mainly because I couldn't stand to throw them away after I painted my house. I'm all about recycling. =D
Yes i am also about recycling and using anything i can find lol...I am also about finding simple solutions for everyone because not everyone has the patience or skills to carve a stencil... By the way i am making my 'i want it' video tomorrow ;)
Lovin your art work and Lovin your Utube How to's Fantastic Thanks for sharing.

I love thinking outside the box. Using materials that were not made to be used that way is very liberating and can get the creative juices flowing.
