My parent raised me to also "pay it forward," though we are not a family of wealth nor supply.

We try to restrict it to strangers. One, because I'm giving without having personal knowledge of the person, as you experienced, it has larger ramifications of reaffirming someone's faith in mankind as a whole. Secondly, because then you can truly give in an altruistic manner, without it being of any benefit to you whatsoever and you can give out of need not emotion too.

I am a firm believer of paying it forward. People, sponsor a child. Eat out less or go out less every month and use the money saved to sponsor a starving child. It is very rewarding! Bob Marley - yeah!!!
