  • Bravissima, con tutti i trilli e le agilità fatti come si deve!

  • A lovely rounded tone, not as strident as Callas, ah well, everyone has their own favourites....

  • Lovely singing. TY dance for posting

  • This is simply perfection! RIP Madame Leyla!! Unique, exquisite, and sublimely expressive! THANK YOU for the legacy that you leave us on rare RAI broadcasts and the patrimony of pirated performances that your "ragazzi" recorded! Decca, Angel DGG and RCA recording studios should hang there heads in shame because none had the intelligence to sign you to recording contracts. Yet your "miracle" has occurred and you will forever be in the hearts of your fans - many of whom NEVER heard you live!

  • Please, she was everything Callas ever was. On top of that, she actually had a beautiful voice and a great technique, which Callas never had.

  • OMG the high C is so effortless! And the ridiculously difficult coloratura bit in the middle (which I have tried often times and failed, oh well I'm a Wagnerian!) sounds so much more beautiful than Bartoli's gargles... BRAVA

  • thank you for posting. never heard that one. a truly great artist. She never ever tried to imitate Callas. They were contemporaries who had the same repertoire and dramatic intensity. Gencer had the more beautiful sound, i think, and her career lasted twice as long as Callas'. But EVERYONE stood in Callas' shadow. and not always rightly so, i think.

  • She is really excellent. I'm proud to be Turk. We'll never forget her.

  • Finally herself and not trying to imitate callas, well done wonderfull wouw.

  • I don't think she ever tried to imitate Callas.

  • @zizeus She was always herself. Callas was one of her rivals - as I know. So, the best she could do, was to stay true to herself...

  • Callas was her contemporary not her rival, they both performed the same and very different roles. Callas never performed that many Donizetti, Bellin roles or even Verdi Roles as Gencer. Nor did Callas sing the baroque repertoire or much Mozart. Callas never performed the Russian repertoire or Modern works, However Gencer never performed Wagner or Puccini's Turandot or Verdi's Nabucco, so rivals they were not, simply both very great artsists and singers.

  • @robertdonkers Gencer performed Liu from Turandot and Wagner's Tannhauser.

  • @zizeus she never did that!! they're quite different

  • Magnifique, magnifique, magnifique ! Merci !

  • Rest in peace, dear Lady!

  • Brava! Prime Gencer!

  • Ercole di Imola:Rimarrai sempre nei nostri cuori ma soprattutto la tua voce come uno strumento, come dimostra questa alleluja di Mozart.Mi manchi tanto cara Leyla.

  • Well I have been a GREAT fan of Leyla's for many years and I thought I knew/seen everything of hers, but some of those lovely pictures you posted I have never seen A great and rare trat for me so THANK YOU!!!

  • Magnifique! Sublimes photos rarissimes et enregistrement non moins rare, merci mille fois!

  • La Diva Turca, we will all miss you...

She was the sun of Milan, air of La Scala.

  • Was there anythying Queen Leyla could not sing? This is amazing. Shame on those who prevented her from signing a major recording contract and thus depriving the most versatile and exciting soprano along Callas from the huge fame and career she deserved!

  • Thanks a lot for posting this!

Rest in Peace La Diva Turca!
