I think marriage is bullshit personally but EVERYONE should have that right. Prop 8 has not be overturned though. It's on it's way but we're still fighting. Join the ACLU and help with the ongoing fight. It's going to the Supreme Court no question.

Thank you for saying all this. I have had this discussion with a few of my gay friends, and Dick's attitude does seem to be shared among part of the gay community, which is a real shame. After all, where would women's rights be if whole chunks of the community had said, "Well, who gives a shit about politics anyway? Democracy is a lie!"...? I don't know, but it's an unnerving thought. That's why we gotta unite to get legal rights!

I love this video! I've known a few Dicks, and they were male, female, gay, straight. They have a point: they've been watching marriages fall apart for years. As a friend's lawyer dad says, a marriage contract is less of a contract than what you sign when you're renting a car.
Having said that, things change, and cultures deny marriage rights only to those they consider subhuman. I support marriage rights out of a sense of justice, not because I respect the way this culture interprets marriage.

As someone who formerly felt that "marriage" should be a heterosexual union and some other term should be used for a gay partnership, I want to stand up and say I'm really sorry about that. I honestly didn't think I was discriminating, just clarifying, or some such crap that we tell ourselves when we are uninformed, insensitive,and self-involved because it isn't our issue. I have learned so much over the past 18 months and re-evaluated my thinking on many things.
