  • I don't get the point of this video... All of the riffs are different? They are only similar in the way that they are being played by the same band.

But anyway, cheers for this video. It's been quite nice listening to a bunch of awesome songs slammed together, seriously.

  • Such total variety, man i am totally amazed at this band. A group of truly gifted musicians who must be heard by everyone. It'd make North Korea surrender if South Korea kept blasting it on them across the border. Just brilliant...god I wish I knew Morse code.

  • whats the song called at 0:34 ???

  • @wasa965 its the interlude part in the song "Wolf"

  • 2:25 is Desert Rain

  • Jon Schaffer did some awesome stuff with Hansi on Demons and Wizards why is none of that here?

  • @izzyalistair because it's not iced earth

  • @EpicMetalTime Yeah, I guess that's valid.

  • its funny you say, they are really good riffs no doubt, but most of em are the same exact notes played differently lol... not at all very original when you look at it musically..but still very good riffs

  • Anyone know what is at 1:27 - 1:29, 1:38 - 1:42, 2:09 - 2:14 and 2:25 - 2:39??? Please those are the only ones that I dont remember their names.

  • i made a video like this about morbid angel

  • Whats the first riff i love it :)

  • @guitarheropanda It's from Night Of The Stormrider I believe

  • @RandallTheBestIEGtr if anyones gonna talk about solos id suggest Michael Ammott =p

  • Also, the tail is missing from the riff from The Order of the Rose. The tail makes that riff awesome!

  • I wish the maker of this video had included the twiddly guitar part that eventually plays over the riff from The Dimension Gauntlet (3:26).

  • 2:53 - Dante's Inferno (again), 3:02 - Hold at all costs, 3:07 - Disciples of the lie 3:25 - Dimension Gauntlet 3:44 - Framing Armageddon 3:50 - Sacrificial Kingdoms 3:55 - Retribution through the ages 4:04 - The Clouding 4:10 - Behold the wicked child 4:17 - Something wicked (Part I) 4:27 - A charge to keep 4:38 - Order of the Rose 4:43 - When stars collide (Born is he) 4:47 - Motivation of Man 4:52 - Sacrificial kingdoms 4:57 - Setian Massacre 5:02 - Divide and devour 5:07 - The Revealing

  • CAN ANYONE PLEASE TELL ME WHICH SONG IS ON 1:16 ??? PLEASE.....

  • @schaffergallops It's the reckoning from the glorious burden

  • How to be Jon Schaffer:

    1. Gallop aimlessly on an open string at high speed.

    2. Repeat step 1 for entire song.

  • @oooooooooorly so what are you waiting?I'll certainly buy your albums if you can make riffs like that

  • @patounboy ooooooooooooooooorly, betcha can't play american idiot from greenday ;) lol

  • what song is in 3:25?

  • @CrazyMetalBoy The dimension gauntlet from crucible of man

  • @patounboy ty and what song is at 3:44?

  • @CrazyMetalBoy it must be framing armageddon i think..haven't really heard this album

  • the most magic riff-creating hands in metal, hands down! this guy is a sweet/catchy as hell-riff producing machine! a true master of his trade!!!!!....

  • 8 people who disliked this riffs are i guess limb bizkit or limp waffle fans :D

  • what is 1:39 ? Thanks

  • @GTDami 1:39 is from Curse the Sky from the self-titled first album

  • @Georgeous129 Thanks bud

  • Thumbs if you think Iced Earth is the most awesome band ever!

  • iced earth or GTFO!

  • N conheço nenhum guitarrista mais bruto que esse! Jon Schaffer long life for your riffs!!

  • @StrAitLegitx913 Yup straight legit is right its from wolf.

  • @StrAitLegitx913

i think its the middle part of "wolf" from the album "horror show".

  • Can you please make one of these just with all the badass drum beats PLEASE! :)

  • If I didn't know better I'd say Jon had a favorite rhythmic technique or something.

Seriously, I actually like Iced Earth for the most part, but I also have a high tolerance for overused techniques. To say Jon loves his gallops is a bit of an understatement.

  • Christ some of you people aren't good at picking up on sarcasm. Also even if the poster is taking the piss out of Jon it doesnt mean he doesnt like Iced Earth. I have all their albums apart from Crucible of Man and I still laugh at Jon and his one riff sometimes :p

  • this is fucking awsome

    long live schaffer the rifflord

  • I am very confused. The guy is called "FramingArmageddon" indicating he is an Iced Earth fan, he spends time making a video (which I loved :P) of beastly Schaffer riffs. Though the video information indicates he is making fun of Schaffer, along with the text during the video. Are you a fan or not?!

  • @NobIeSavage How is he making fun of Shaffer?

  • @ilikenoodles1 - Read the description and the text comments during the video :P

  • These galloping riffs are so awesome and extremely fun to play! :) Shcaffer is an awesome genius!

  • Even though these are all really similar, you can still recognize the song and hum them all out until the chorus.

  • Does anybody know the song at 3:50? Just love it..

  • @ornvik481 If you haven't figured it out by now, the song is "Sacrificial Kingdoms" off their album "The Crucible of Man" Amazing song.

  • is this a troll, or is the uploader sincere? Hoping it's the former, either way these soulless, stupidly generic Hetfield rip offs are hilarious and made my day. Kudos, FA!

  • @cyurisich Why is this even a question?

  • @cyurisich - Hetfield is too much of a drunk to even attempt riffs like this.

  • This is awesome. I could listen to this all day.

  • even if all these riffs are kinda the same, they all rule

  • There are still much much more riffs that should be in this video! :)

  • It's not a wonder that there are so many ignorant fools on the web that don't recognize talent or great musicianship when they hear it and bash it .I recently finished mastering most of all of IE's songs (my favorite band ) And EVERY Prog Tech/ Fag Tech metal musician I've run into could not even fathom playing this sick a rhythm at this speed. Something's been lost in today's music, but I plan to keep this part of the best of metal's history alive in my 74 SG. Long live Jon Schaffer \m/

  • What is it from 4:48 to 4:51???

  • @isaacX13 its from the album framing armageddon the song motivation of man

  • @donaldfactory thanks you very much for help mate.

  • @isaacX13 no problem metal head :DDD

    iced earth 4 ever !!!!!

  • @isaacX13 that would be Motivation Of Man (live)

  • I made the logo in this video. Good stuff.

  • 3:26 name?

  • @b7410or The dimension gauntlet (crucible of man)

  • @icedone08 thanks dude :)

  • This is easily Iced Earth's best song.

  • Comment removed

  • @Bamananatic Together this would be a hella ill mash.

  • @Bamananatic lol!!

  • @Bamananatic hahahahaha hahahaaaaaaaaaah that's so funny, but youd get off on anything i bet lol

  • if anyone can put together a riff collection like this for any other band and say its better then this... i would love to see it

  • The fact that this is labeled one Iced Earth song is hilarious.

  • @rex3453 I don't think that's what he meant, but I lol'd too.

  • now, wouldn't it be cool if all those riffs were part of the same song?hahaha!lol!

  • hellyeah! the brilliant/unique rythm guitar parts/riffing is what I always loved best about Jon and his awesome band!!! his riffing sound is so characteristic that the moment you listen to it,you know it's him-it's kinda' like a trademark!....and I loved it even more when I found out where the inspiration for it came from:none other than the one and only steve harris-my personal music idol!Jon studied iron maiden's riffing and he sped it up/developed it to an entirely new level!

  • it's better to recycle riffs like this than that crabcore nonsense with random breakdown riffs and dissonant chords...

  • @problematique1991 also trying to learn randalls solos is fun cos there so cool.but usually too hard

  • ICEDDDDDDDD EARTH LIVES IN OUR SPIRITS...!!!!

  • Not bad but this comment "Each and every riff is carefully crafted with the highest degree of originality" Is out for debate for me, every riff sounds the same

  • @saynotodrug999 So you don't have ears. You can't hear sounds if they are very fast.

  • Lol...I love this. Trying to mock on Iced Earth and almost every single comment here is like: ''Hail Iced Earth/Jon Schaffer, Kick-ass riffs''. Anyways...I can listen to these freaking riffs the whole day. He uses the same rhythm pattern over and over though, but they are still different riffs.

  • Ok, reading the description made me lol hard while I was listening to this.

  • He's the galloping master!

  • fuck yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "Here comes the Iced Earth part bro"???? LOL

  • Great tribute, brother. Iced Earth is one of my Top 5 bands of all time. Not to mention, Jon Schaffer is from my hometown of Fort Wayne, Indiana, making him a hometown hero and influence. I used to talk to Greg Seymour once in a while too (Iced Earth's original drummer).

  • There has never been anything close to resembling shredding in Iced Earth. :P Not that that's a bad thing at all, but most of their solos aren't very challenging at all.

  • which song is from 3:52 to 3:55??

  • the best rythm guitarist by far....

  • Aaaaaand now my neck is sore. Thank you for uploading this.

  • iced earth forever! fuck nwo

  • veze :D

  • "his shredding solos" He usually doesnt do the solos, he writes them, but doesnt perform them, but yes, one of the best rhythm guitar players around, sounds just like this, as long as you add in the screaming fans.

king666nothing: well these are from all over, a lot from "Days of Purgatory", some from "something wicked this way comes" some newer, some older. Actually hit a lot of what I like. Was gonna say i didnt hear any Dantes Inferno, but i just heard some, bad ass song.

  • Awesome to say the least hahaha.

  • whats the songs at 3:12 and 3:28

  • @omgitsconner Disciples of the Lie and The Dimension Gauntlet. TDG is a great song.

  • @omgitsconner I it's Jack, and...Something Wicked part 1? Not to sure.

  • what song is at 1:46 thanx :D

  • @ballcrack10 that's Dante's Inferno

  • thats Jons signature riff. :) awesome indeed.

  • The funny thing is that while Schaffer's rhythm guitar is usually very similar between each song, this video has a lot of different riffs in it. Learn what riff means and what rhythm pattern means. Apples and apple pies.

  • I realize that, but the Person who posted it apparently can't actually play this. Same style, and usually tuning but all different, fast and fun to play.

  • This video is sarcastic. You idiots.

  • @NoSoup4you Most of the people commenting here understand that, you fool.

  • awesome thanks for uploading this!

  • now i am a dimebag darrell fanboy and i always have and always will preach that he makes the greatest riffs of all time. But i think the he is almost equaled out with schaffer. His riffs are origianal they are placed and timed excelently and his picking is absolutely impeccable. His control and speed is incredible and he has made iced earth the amazing band that it is today. Jon is amazing and this video is a testament to that FACT!

  • @metal11223 I agree. They are both awesome riffers. even though that's not really a word haha

  • Iced Earth RULES

  • Schaffer is an amazing guitar player. Not many people have his sense of timing or rhythm. Gifted musician.

  • Fuckin owns! seen iced earth twice now. fucking amazing.

  • I dont know if this vid is a mockery or not, but most of people commenting here are actually praising iced earth and Schaffer. So if this is a mockery as some of you said, then the author failed miserably. Anyway, awesome stuff, incredible rythm guitar and its god Jon Schaffer. \m/

  • Schaffer is a godamned beast... I've spent crazy amounts of time mastering these riffs (putting out covers soon [good covers, not like the other ones you see lol] ) And It always kills me how he plays so flawlessly... THAT is why he should be praised... Mofo wants to mock all of his hard work to create something original, Let him have his laugh, because I LOVE this movie.

  • Jon Schaffer is the greatest rhythm guitarist i've ever heard. Really, who else can play that kind of monster riffs and still sound so melodic and simply good. I don't care what anyone else says, but my opinion is, that Iced Earth is better thrash metal band than Metallica or Megadeth. Iced Earth sounds better and it's not so commercial band. And Schaffer could play in every single band there is, he's that good =D.

  • I think its pretty hilarious that this is a mockery of Iced Earth yet its all their best riffs. If you think this is generic crap then you need to try and play some of them. These are monster riffs, most of them tough to nail accurately. Alot of Jon's riffs sound similar because of the way he plays them and his rather unique amps he uses.

Its ironic because Maiden does the exact same thing but you don't see people bitching about them. Every song has the Maiden gallop. Its a signature sound.

  • Maiden is Jon's biggest influence along with Priest, but they are so much slower and less precise.

  • i love playing these riffs on my guitar =)

  • Just try and play Jon Schaffer on rhythm guitar without flaw. I've watched him do it live up close 2x. No chance any guitar player knew could even dream of playing rhythm that fast.

  • Seen him twice with Barlow in 2002 and then with Owens in 2005. Did NOT MISS ONE NOTE!!! Though Santolla did.

  • Galloping orgasm, Jon Schaffer the mother fucckinggg maaaaaaaaaan!

  • lol'd

  • even if all these riffs are similar they still fucking own, i could listen to these all day

  • i love iced earth riffs

  • To the author: Do you by any chance have the list and order of all songs used in this video?

  • I had a list at one point, but it's not on the computer I use now.

  • OK, man. Thanx anyway.

  • @king666nothing stormrider, the path i choose, iced earth, burning times, wolf, the hunter, angels holocaust, the reckoning, written on the walls, when the night falls, iced earth (again), curse the sky, dante's inferno, stormrider (again), when the night falls (again), travel in stygian, pure evil, desert rain, dante's inferno (again), dante's inferno (once again)...

bah, i m bored to do the rest XD

  • @AngelHolocaust666 Thanks a lot, dude. I really appreciate it.

  • @king666nothing

I am a pretty big Iced Earth fan but I stopped listening after Horror Show and I don't listen to Dark Saga much. Here's the best I've got: 0:00 - Night of the Stormrider (intro), 0:04 - Path I chose (intro), 0:09 - Iced Earth, 0:28 - Burning Times, 0:35 - Wolf, 1:00 - (Sounds really familar but no idea where it's from), 1:04 - Angels Holocaust, 1:14 - ???, 1:18 - Written on the Walls, 1:28 - When the Night Falls, 1:30 - Iced Earth (different version that 0:09), 1:39 - ???

  • 1:44 - Dante's Inferno, 1:52 - Night of the Stormrider, 2:12 - When the Night Falls, 2:15 - Travel in Stygian (Live), 2:22 - Pure Evil (Live), 2:25 - Desert Rain, 2:40 - Dante's Inferno, 2:55 - Dante's Inferno ... the remaining 17 riffs seem to be from beyond Horror Show since nothing sounds familiar to me.

  • @person1227 At 1:00 is The Hunter

  • @person1227 1:00 - The Hunter (Is coming Down!)

  • @person1227 bro 1:00 belongs to the hunter of iced earth.. thats where we play on our tribute band with pure sense of joy on t"he hunter":)

  • @person1227 bro 1:00 belongs to the hunter of iced earth.. thats where we play on our tribute band with pure sense of joy on t"he hunter":) and 1:14 purely belongs to "reckoning dont tread on me"

  • @person1227 bro 1:00 belongs to the hunter of iced earth.. thats where we play on our tribute band with pure sense of joy on t"he hunter":) and 1:14 purely belongs to "reckoning dont tread on me" and 1:18 is " cast in stone"

  • Hello there 235. Whoa ho ho, Iced Earth riffs sound kind of like melodeath. hahaha.

  • y halo thar 235

  • Though I understand iced earth's riffs can be generic, I think Jon is the only on who can pull them off with tightness and articulation

  • icemilitia I think Schaffer and Jeff Waters (Annihilator) are the best rhythm player in the world when it comes to tight triplet and galloping based riffs.

  • i agree!

  • lol. You people know that the description of the video is sarcasm right? I'm amazed at how many people here actually think Schaffer is a riff genius

  • i love how basically all the riffs are at the exact same tempo (or in a half time feel). So painfully generic.

iced earth fans: you're all idiots, and the guy who put this obviously taking the piss. Y'all got trolled.

  • @MetalSynthLegend If you are so great then why don't you spend hours selecting riffs and putting them together in a video? I'd would like to here that you insulting little idiot! Sure, it's a little sarcastic, he's making fun of Schaffer, yes all the riffs are gallops, but they're still cool!

  • well the guy's username references an iced earth song, so maybe he;s serious. though his claim that jon schaeffer plays shredding solos is a bit ridiculous.

  • @cyurisich

actually, he's indeed a great "riff player"

at least WAY better than anyone i've seen on your favorites

like metallica generic senseless riffing... motorhead...

and you think ie fans are the stupid ones?

you know nothing about it man... seriously

IE is the only thrash i can hear... simply because they are brilliant on that

    they live performances are FLAWLESS!

and even if you think they are generic "riffers"... they play more creatively than any of your favorite marks!

  • What's the name of the song?

  • Not a song, it's a compilation of all the great riffs Schaffer ever used.

They come from almost all the songs Iced Earth has ever made. So I recommend that if you wanna hear them all again in a song, you buy the entire Iced Earth discography

  • dont buy .. download it from torrent

  • LOL

  • Jon would be proud to hear this, thanks for the vid...

  • but that's "signature" iced earth. u know what i mean.

bt, the crucible of man and framing armageddon(although this one is better than the crucible of man for me) are clearly not the best iced earth work. there are good stuff in it though..

  • brilliant work of riffage ! i love it. i love how it represents all the great bands in one single riff plus becoming a totally different monster.

  • That was a good song.

  • this is a great tribute, jon should use this as a infomercial for iced earth

  • ha ha "never overstaying their welcome"

  • i love this shit...

  • @Applequeso

as I previously stated, IE is the only thrash i spend my time listening

most of those who claim themselves gods of thrash metal is without the first "h"...

if you know what i mean!

and this video failed ^^ very hard!

  • @Applequeso You are flat out an idiot. Don't come on to a vid that is made up of Iced Earth riffs and dis the founder,

  • Every band has there own style, and i admit i get tired of how so many metalcore/hardcore bands ALWAYS have a breakdown part in all their songs, but i just can't get enough of these gallops. It defines Iced Earth for me

...And people need to become better educated when talking about metal because its like every time someone hears a fast gallop in a song, they say its a "Slayer inspired," like their the ONLY band that uses them.
