I have to admit I was lukewarm about Archie during the season because I was so enamoured with jason Castro (and still am) but now that he has his CD out I am an Archie fan with a capital F. He is incredible! Don't get me wrong, I thought he was a spectacular vocalist but now that he is free to do his own music-he has captured me. I play his album over and over. His star is def outshining Cook-always did!
David is the most talented contestant to grace the American Idol stage. He has the whole package - good looks, hot vocals and a genuinely humble personality. He mesmerizes us with his overabundance of talent at such a young age. This is why he has so many fans! I just hope he realizes what an effect he's had on us. I think he is the best male singer ever on Idol--even better than Elliot and Clay. This is a great medley. The performances captured here are nothing short of amazing. The only glaring omission is "Imagine."

Right on,wlhardy. If this was a real singing contest, the voting would not be based on a frenzy of multiple votes by each voter. He also was not the 2nd best singer, he was the best, and by a "comfortable mile" (Simon )David got the exposure he needed on a popular TV show. He "gets" it. He wasn't lusting after a win, because he knows he has the talent needed to be successful. The public saw enough and adores him. He transcended that silly show and his participation elevated it beyond its worth

Archuleta was no doubt the best singer on the show out of every year. He has such a unique voice, especially those one or two times each song when he puts all of his heart into a note. I really feel that David A should have won AI, but people just wouldn't pick up the phone and vote. I've talked to a few of his fans that said that they just thought he would win and didn't bother to call in. I guess the things that Simon said that night gave a sense of false security. I thought it was tacky to announce the vote count. I wonder why they did it this year. They have not done that in the last 5-6 years that I have been watching. So why now? That had to be deflating to David A. I just didn't see the necessity for them to do that. It was rather a slap in the face. There is no doubt that he sang circles around David C. Even DC thought that David A had won after listening to him sing that last Tuesday. DC acted like he wasn't even trying. He seems to be nice though
I think David Cook is a good singer .. but DA isnt just great and talented, he touches the heart and soul of those who appreciate his song and amazing vocal. DA's voice is timeless and like all those great singers, his song will be everlasting while DC's will be gone with time.
Total votes cast were 97.5 million,a record and I believe David Archuleta also broke a record with his 43 million votes.
Right now his voice is changing and wil go deeper ,when he sang "Smokey Mountain Memories" he hit a D-Flat,which was one of my favorites that he did.When he sang "Heaven" during his audition,I was hooked from that point on........Just amazing
If it turns out that David can WRITE MUSIC as well as he sings it, he will be one of those STARS ultimately, and maybe, just maybe, my prediction will come true. As David MATURES, he will evolve into quite a handsome, unassuming young man, and I think he will settle down within himself, in that he will be more confident and develop poise.
I really like when he sang Heaven as well. The only one of his performances I was kinda iffy on was Sweet Caroline, not because he did a bad job, just cause it was a wierd song. I guess that had a lot to do with who's songs they were singing though hahaha.
efmutton--yes, it's like apples & oranges, but it's not just a matter of rock v. pop, it's MORE than that. David is EXTREMELY GIFTED with a voice that SETS HIM APART from all the rest. It's like the "dime a dozen" singers v. the Streisand's, Manilow's, Parton's, & Diamond's, etc. Neil Diamond saw the uniqueness that Andrew Lloyd Webber said is NEEDED to have a lasting impression. DA is a "prodigy", it's OK to say DC isn't, in my book. But, you are SO right about David's dad.

Just enjoy this. Just remember what music does for people, and how many people have been affected by music. You know, to have been given this opportunity and to be able to share that with people is just the best feeling ever. There's no better feeling I've ever felt.

OK so i am sitting here watching and listening to this amazing singer and i still cant believe that he did not win.He touched so many people and i dont understand why they didnt help him for hekping them.I cried for and hour and a half after the finale because he didnt win and i dont understand why he didnt win.
The loss is most likely a techno-race loss. When I tried to vote, often I couldn't get thru. So, do the #s reflect the real actual attempted votes? No, just votes that were able to get thru. AI producers & AT&T need to come up with a better way to collect votes. I believe the results demonstrate bad stats collecting. Perhaps they could do multiple random sampling. If U time the applause after each contestants songs, U'll notice that D.A. has the longest applause except when Randy interrupted it.
I have several thoughts as to why David A lost,Cook is a great talent who has been singing for longer then Archie has been on this earth.I think it was mostly experience.
I think Archie's audience mostly the tweens due to the late eastern hours had to go to bed
early as did his vast seniors audience.
I really think Archie did a exceptional job and is an exceptional person,that's for sure.
As Archie said,don't feel sorry,he is very happy with what he accomplished.
This stinks, I am still sitting here listening to this beautiful voice and I can not believe he did not win. What the HELL is wrong with the american public today. Please tell me, because this kid has touched every person one way or another and I still cannot believe the outcome.

i agree! i weeped the whoe day after the winner was announced but now im relieved that archie will release an album soon and i confidently think that davidA will make it much further in the industry. there is this interview of him, and sayd something like his songs and stuff appeals alot to europe. he will be BIG, because his albums will be selling worldwide!

I start my day by watching him in you tube,read his update, and wherever I go I take my ipod and listen and look at his videos.He sure does have those charisma like Pricess DI.I can't wait to see him on his tour to NY, anyway he is not coming to virginia so I wil go to Rochester NY just to see this young man. May29,After the announcement that David Cook has signed with RCA Records yesterday, news is creeping in that David Archuleta will sign with Jive Records. There is already a single waiting for David to record — which we hope will be heavily promoted during the Summer Tour — we can buy the music after we see them in concert, what a novel idea! LOL — I think David Archuleta will follow the Clay Aiken Runner-Up sales trajectory closer than any other American Idol Runner-Up.

I think his fans are taking the loss harder than he is. Talk about a gracious "loser." How does anyone get so much poise at such a young age? Very admirable. I'm a huge fan, and have been since the season began. I'm going to buy anything this sweet Archie records.

he should try r&b even though he did try with you by chris brown he just needs to learn how to sing more up beat songs, even though R&b isn't fast anyways, and is the reason why i suggest he gives it a try

David C sounded like a gruff voiced old man whenever he sung, turning everything he sung into utter bull.
Archuleta had a more flexible voice, and took his time to deliver all he really could. David Cook rushed and degraded every song he sung.
David A was the real winner for sure.

I thought it was tacky to announce the vote count. I wonder why they did it this year. They have not done that in the last 5-6 years that I have been watching. So why now? That had to be deflating to David A. I just didn't see the necessity for them to do that. It was rather a slap in the face. There is no doubt that he sang circles around David C. Even DC thought that David A had won after listening to him sing that last Tuesday. DC acted like he wasn't even trying. He seems to be nice though

I think David Cook is a good singer .. but DA isnt just great and talented, he touches the heart and soul of those who appreciate his song and amazing vocal. DA's voice is timeless and like all those great singers, his song will be everlasting while DC's will be gone with time.

I know that on the finale they said David Cook won by 12 million votes, but they never announced how many votes there were total. Does anyone know?

Total votes cast were 97.5 million,a record and I believe David Archuleta also broke a record with his 43 million votes.
Right now his voice is changing and wil go deeper ,when he sang "Smokey Mountain Memories" he hit a D-Flat,which was one of my favorites that he did.When he sang "Heaven" during his audition,I was hooked from that point on........Just amazing

If it turns out that David can WRITE MUSIC as well as he sings it, he will be one of those STARS ultimately, and maybe, just maybe, my prediction will come true. As David MATURES, he will evolve into quite a handsome, unassuming young man, and I think he will settle down within himself, in that he will be more confident and develop poise.

I really like when he sang Heaven as well. The only one of his performances I was kinda iffy on was Sweet Caroline, not because he did a bad job, just cause it was a wierd song. I guess that had a lot to do with who's songs they were singing though hahaha.

efmutton--yes, it's like apples & oranges, but it's not just a matter of rock v. pop, it's MORE than that. David is EXTREMELY GIFTED with a voice that SETS HIM APART from all the rest. It's like the "dime a dozen" singers v. the Streisand's, Manilow's, Parton's, & Diamond's, etc. Neil Diamond saw the uniqueness that Andrew Lloyd Webber said is NEEDED to have a lasting impression. DA is a "prodigy", it's OK to say DC isn't, in my book. But, you are SO right about David's dad.

Just enjoy this. Just remember what music does for people, and how many people have been affected by music. You know, to have been given this opportunity and to be able to share that with people is just the best feeling ever. There's no better feeling I've ever felt.

Many fans say Archie should have won and I agree 100%.However both are very good singers but shouldn't be compared against each other.
That is like comparing apples and oranges,both are very good but it's a matter of taste.
I find it hard to believe that a kid just 17 can get deep into the hearts of so many people with his singing,but he has done exactly that.
For those knocking his Dad,you should be praising him for the job he has dodne raising him,with such high moral values,etc.

OK so i am sitting here watching and listening to this amazing singer and i still cant believe that he did not win.He touched so many people and i dont understand why they didnt help him for hekping them.I cried for and hour and a half after the finale because he didnt win and i dont understand why he didnt win.

The loss is most likely a techno-race loss. When I tried to vote, often I couldn't get thru. So, do the #s reflect the real actual attempted votes? No, just votes that were able to get thru. AI producers & AT&T need to come up with a better way to collect votes. I believe the results demonstrate bad stats collecting. Perhaps they could do multiple random sampling. If U time the applause after each contestants songs, U'll notice that D.A. has the longest applause except when Randy interrupted it.

I have several thoughts as to why David A lost,Cook is a great talent who has been singing for longer then Archie has been on this earth.I think it was mostly experience.
I think Archie's audience mostly the tweens due to the late eastern hours had to go to bed
early as did his vast seniors audience.
I really think Archie did a exceptional job and is an exceptional person,that's for sure.
As Archie said,don't feel sorry,he is very happy with what he accomplished.
