  • Aparently George Lucas used the "power" of the lens part but named his version the "force" instead so Star Wars is based at least loosely on the novels off the lensmen!

  • is it just me, or is this a lot like the green lantern?

  • well, that's what happens when you A) hook your whole facility to yourself, B) put acid throughout your building , C) kill all your generals and D) INVITE YOUR ENEMY INTO YOUR BASE!!!!!

  • i may have a shortage of memory here but i have distant memory seeing kim making out with chris in the middle of a film is it cut from the normal versions ???

chris was supposed to be kinda slutty

  • Thanks for posting...:-D Kovu12 - it's not Helmet, it's Helmuth.... and I hope that someone decides to make a series of movies following faithfully to the books.... It'd be awsome - rival Star Wars and Battlestar..... :-)

  • Loved this movie when I was a little kid, back in the 80's and it's awesome to be able to watch it again, over 20 years after. You're the man!! :-)

  • The American's seem to have treated this anime much like Harlock Saga. With 25 animated episodes, why do only 4 exist in region 1? The synthesizers I think are over-rated, I've played much in my time. It was an on-going animation trend towards the end of that decade to use Saw waves and Poly-synthesized music. It's nothing unique regardless of the composer. Worldly music, with a common trend. Listen to any American action film during this era and the music is the same with minor differences.

  • I still don't understand how some can not agree that this is an excellent soundtrack. There's synthesizer music and then there's synthesizer music. For instance, the Italian zombie films were in a league of their own in that department and you cant quite compare them to just about any 80s action film.

The point is the intenseness of the melodies and the drums, even though the composition might be simple. Not many films of the 80s and certainly none in th 2000s have that kind of emotion.

  • @JohanElectric Well, you are right on that. I loved the synthesizers used in the original Tenchi OAV. The synthesizer would actually give acclaim to the music section of animated films, if they were still widely used. Because synthesizers have never died down in versitility. Off the subject, I still don't understand why this series only has 4 released episodes in North America and why it's out of print considering how well animated it is and the fame of the author.

  • @JohanElectric I personally like the synthesized music, but probably because I am so nostalgic

  • Thanks for posting this Johan!

Btw, any luck finding Power of the Lens?

  • @rumpole As far as I know Power of the Lens has already been posted on youtube. I'm not sure if it's in English though. I 'm sure I favourited it so people who watched my post could then refer to it. Must check

  • @rumpole That is, favorited on this homepage (I replied signed into another account)

  • well, i guess helmet got loose ! aren't those his guts leaving at 07:20 ? helmet , what a space dumbass !!

  • @napalmvoododaddy

No those are not his guts. You'd need to read the books to understand. That was an Eddorian who were the true leaders of the Boskone pirates. In the book Helmuth himself was a blue skinned humanoid. I guess the anime was suggesting it was Gharlane of Eddore making an escape at the end, because Gharlane isn't killed until book 6.

  • @Sargonarhes thank you. i never knew about the books. i was wondering what was seeming to escape !

  • i bet chris has to be freaking out !!

  • Comment removed

  • sorry i didnt mean to dislike i like it alot, i tried changing it so i liked too sorry :(

  • I knew there was music missing or changed in this version. My old laserdisc version had the Japanese music. I knew I wasn't crazy.

  • also an enmy looks like a skelton

  • there's part missing .

the octupus lens in planet of oceans

and the garden planet like paradise

  • the part you just said is from the another lensman movie called Lensman: The power of the lens.

  • Thanks for posting this,it's a tried and true classic. Someday,I hope to find an actual VHS copy of this rare anime.

  • Well this version is a lot different then the version that i saw. A lot of the violence was taken out, especially when Helmet killed all of his commanders, in the version i saw, you see them bubble, and explode.

  • As far as I know there were two Harmony Gold dubs of this with different voices, this one and the one you're mentioning.

But I think the more violent version didn't have the same great music track heard here but the original japanese score. That version is more dark without the herioc music I think.

  • @JohanElectric Agreed, but I still prefer that version. Sure the music in this is great, but a lot of the scenes don't make sense. For instance, Kim is supposed to shoot himself to break out of the illusions, but in this version he just points the gun at his arm then everything suddenly changes.
