  • What guitar do You propose for playing with Record ? I mean styles like: funk, pop, classic rock.

  • @przemekg84 Sorry for the late reply. There are so many great guitarists playing all styles of music on all different types of guitars, so I really cannot tell you which guitar to get. If you want the most versatility available in a guitar, try out a Line 6 James Tyler Variax. It can sound like several different types of guitars, and includes guitar models based on Stratocasters, Telecasters, Les Pauls, several acoustic guitars (including 12-string models) and even banjo and Electric Sitar!

  • I have a question, is it possible to make an effect like this with a nn-xt or somtin or is my only option to use the wave

  • @VictomousInc Not 100% sure what you mean, but if I understand you correctly: You mean apply the effect to an NN-XT (like a guitar sample) instead of to a real guitar? Yes, you could do that. Instead of using the set-up in the video on an audio track, just use it on an NN-XT track.

  • Hi, great tutorial. I love it!!

Just one question. Is it possible to connect external wah pedal and control sound guitar live? I use Balance Audio interface so ...can I connect my guitar to wah and than wah to Balance and play through Line 6 Amps in Reason 6?

    Kind Regards.

    Thanks!

  • @Benton7395 Absolutely. You can use any of your stomp boxes in front of Balance, including your wah.

  • I wish I could do this, but can't afford that many guitar leads :(

  • I dont have that Line 6 guitar amp...

  • damn. u shuda made the last part like 5 minuts longer. that wuz cool as shit

  • @poundokush420 Thanks so much! Sorry I never saw this comment until just now, 7 months later.

  • im sorry if this is a noob question but can you make this effect even if you dont have record?

  • @spontaneous09 If you have Reason 5, you could make a similar effect, but you would not be able to record it in the sequencer - you could only play it live. You would also not have the Line 6 Amp device, so you would have to use a second Scream 4 instead for the distortion sound. You would use the Sampling input for the guitar.

You couldn't do it at all in Reason 4 or below because there's no sampling input. If you want to upgrade to Reason 5, I suggest getting Record for Reason Owners. :-)

  • i have to learn that auto wah. It's hot and i could use it when i do get a chance to buy a guy. I have all of propellerhead main programs. I love reason and record. I'm a beginner making beats using only propellerhead programs. I will watch this vid a few times. Thanks and i have a vid on youtube. Type piranhas eating shrimp. The beat you hear in that vid is a beat i did in june. Peace and hop everyone enjoy.

  • Hi ... fantastic tutorial ... just a question ... it's a very long built RPS ... may i download it somewhere to use ?

Sincerly ... many thanks for help.

    Dany Rock Jr

  • @danyrockjr Sorry for the mega-late reply - I thought I had responded to this. It is available for download on the Line 6 Blog. To find it, please go to Line6 dot com slash blog, and on the right-hand side of the window under Categories, click Propellerhead Reason & Record. Then scroll down until you see the article from April 23, 2010 entitled "Propellerhead Record + Reason: How to Make Talk Box and Auto-Wah Effects ." You will find the download link there. Thanks!

  • I don't have Record, so this may be a stupid question, but what's wrong with the clearly labeled "Wah" on the Line 6?

  • @nickmorgan19457 The Wah on the front of the Line 6 amp sounds great, and you can control it with an expression pedal so that it's just like using a real wah pedal.

Auto-wah is a different vibe. Instead of controlling the wah with a foot pedal, an auto-wah reacts automatically each time you play a note, controlled by how loud that note is. If you played the first 4 notes of Beethoven's 5th (dah-dah-dah-DAH) through an auto-wah, it would (automatically) sound like "bwow-bwow-bwow-BWHAOOWW."

  • @line6movies

I know what an auto-wah is. I'm just wondering why you used the filter module when you could have just plugged the CV cable from Scream to the "WAH" input on the back of the Line 6.

  • @nickmorgan19457

    Excellent point, Nick!!!

Your suggestion works great, although it is a different sound (less extreme) than many envelope filter pedals.

I will add an annotation to the video.

Thanks so much for your very useful and brilliant feedback.

  • can I combine a "talk box" combinater pacth though a vocoder and and my voice(adio track) and still get the flavour of an talk box effect ?

  • @abn666 In this video, the formant (vowel sound shape) is created by Thor's Formant Filter instead of a human voice (as would be the case with a real Talk Box or a vocoder). I don't think it would work well to run this Talk Box Combinator effect through a vocoder. Instead, I would use the technique used in the video entitled "Propellerhead Record + Reason: Vocoding with Guitar." If you set the vocoder to a very high number of bands (maybe 512) you may get close to a talkbox effect.

  • @line6movies okay :) btw your videos rock

  • @abn666 Thanks! :)

  • @line6movies Ok, I have Reason 4, but the is not a Line 6 Guitar Amp or Line 6 Bass Amp. What do I do?

  • @MrUSArmyBand

If you are the registered owner of Reason 4, to get the Line 6 amps, you would need to purchase "Record for Reason Owners." Not only will that add Record's audio recording capabilities, mixer, timestretching and Line 6 amps, but also when Reason 5 and Record 1.5 come out later this month (August 25, 2010), you will qualify for free upgrades for both products. The new version of Record even has vocal pitch correction.

  • @line6movies Thanks, I swear $249 just jumped out of my pocket, but the software is amazing, no more $110 an hour at SoundTraxx!

  • Wow. Despite the detailed explanation, this was pretty much rocket science to me. Since you've prepared a 7:56 minutes video already,it may be a good idea to make it even longer by adding the explanations to why choosing this or that connection and effect also...or just prepare a beginner's class video set about signal chains and audio set-ups

  • @Ningirsutyr Thanks for the feedback. Maybe I will have an opportunity to post a video such as you suggest in the future. In the mean time, James Bernard has a good video about Control Voltage in his 52 Reason and Record Tips series. If you want to search for it, it is called: "52 Reason and Record Tips Week 4 - Unlocking the Secrets of CV and Gate." If you check it out, please post back and let me know if it helped shed any light on my video here. :)

  • @line6movies It kind of helped as to be less intimated to watch your video and also the logic of the connections about CV and gate. Then again, I think it's best if I'll try these myself too to learn also in practice. James' video is great in that he explains only 2 things in a focused manner. That could be also an improvement to Line 6 videos!

P.S: How can I hear the sound of my Pod XT Live from my PC while also hearing, say, the track from Guitar Pro?

  • @Ningirsutyr If you connect your studio monitors (powered speakers) to the outputs of POD XT Live, and select POD XT Live as your soundcard (audio output) in Guitar Pro, it should work. (Though I don't have Guitar Pro to try it.) Have you seen this video: "Propellerhead Record + Line 6 POD X3 Live" ? POD XT Live will work similarly.

  • sweet, im gona give it a shot now.
